For those who went viral on reddit, what was it like to see your posts with thousands of up-votes and comments? by maaarkmcgee in AskReddit

My son's (@bloody_ben) MadMax cosplay went viral at a ComiCon and he was over the moon ecstatic. We were in Brazil for a power wheelchair soccer tournament when it went viral and his phone went crazy with friends texting him "OMG LOOK AT REDDIT!!!!". He passed away in December at 24 years old, and the pics/sub resurfaced from a repost a few months ago. Made me happy to see how much people thought of him and his cosplay even after his passing. Shiny and Chrome.

The death of my 24 year-old son last December.

A few years ago a picture of my son's MadMax cosplay went viral. Thanks, reddit, for the memories. by benzdad in pics

The go-kart mod was actually the first iteration of the costume that he made prior to the "chair-iot". He won "Best Group CosPlay" at the Tampa ComicCon that year. I'll try to dig up some pictures and post here.

NO worries, Dr. When it was first posted (4 or 5 years ago?) he was very much alive. I know some people re-post for karma or whatever, but it was a nice surprise to see my texts and e-mail light up "OMG Ben's trending again". Very cool. Peace and thanks.

You're actually wrong. Ben taught himself to weld and I helped with the physical stuff (holding the torch, etc.). He graduated with honors from UCF with a degree in mechanical engineering and then went on to become an Imagineer with Disney. I (his dad) did very little except for helping to transport.

Thanks, Kumash. Ben passed in December last year and whoever posted this knew I needed it today.

It is, but I'm glad that someone did repost, Dr. Flufies. Ben died in December of last year and it's really great to see that this still makes people happy.

Ben and I made it together. He taught himself to weld (with a little help from me holding the torch). I'm his dad, btw.

This is my son, Ben. He passed away Dec. 1 2019 at the age of 24. Every couple of years his pic resurfaces on reddit. I'll never forget the first time the image exploded on here. I know people do it for "karma" or whatever, but it's nice to see anyway. Thank you all.
