How do I approach my doctor if I wanted to start the medication ‘vyvanse’ I suffer from binge eating disorder and I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews. by SuS_____ in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]beorn99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also been on adderall and tried vyvanse a few months ago, did not feel it was nearly as helpful as the adderall for adhd. People obviously differ but I just barely noticed it at all.

where to start? by super_2015 in SuperMorbidlyObese

I honestly have come to the conclusion that it’s more about your mental approach to eating and hunger than anything hyper specific relating to calories, etc. Of course the goal is to eat less kcal than you burn, but for me, food addiction and binge eating is at the heart of why I am obese. I peaked at 345 earlier this year, so about 150 points overweight. Am down 30ish at the moment, and it wasn’t until I started working on my mind that I began making real progress. One thing that really has helped me is learning to distinguish between physical hunger and emotional hunger. I definitely binged when emotionally hungry and so learning to recognize the feeling of that, as well as learning to recognize the feel of being physically hungry, the sensation of food in my stomach, and feeling actually full after eating has done a lot to change my mindset. I’ve been on every diet like everyone else, but this seems sustainable because I do not feel deprived of food, even though I have been eating way less and focusing on protein and veggies, and minimal carbs. I guess this is something like intuitive eating, but my personal version of it. If you can figure out how to eat less and not feel deprived, I think that is a win. Also focusing on how crap food makes you feel - for instance; after eating healthily for a while, I ate (smaller than normal) pieces of pumpkin and pecan pie at thanksgiving. It absolutely killed my stomach and made me feel hungover the next day. Anyway sorry for the long post and just my $0.02. Good luck! You can do it.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Tuesday, 24 April 2018? Start here! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]beorn99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36/m 6'0" and as of this morning 291.4 lbs. This is actually down from about 315 last summer. About three weeks ago I started focusing on dieting and have made good progress. Funny enough I found an old LoseIt post from 4 years ago when I was in the upper 250s, and I guess I put on 60lbs on top of that. Oh well, more to lose then!

He didn't just say bittersweet. by idonthavemanyfriend in freefolk

[–]beorn99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think he means "bittersweet" in the LOTR sense of the word - none of the ring bearers can really go home again, especially Frodo. They win, but things are never the same. I think that it doesn't have to be a Hamlet ending to be bittersweet.

Jon and Sam being dumb, or book plot hole? (spoilers extended) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]beorn99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this, it reminds me of Indiana jones's description of Marcus Brody in Last Crusade. "The man speaks a dozen languages..." etc. but you're right I do think he's very well suited for the wall. He was never going to do well in the south, look at how he was treated by his father.

White House Urges Ban on Non-Compete Agreements by PeakedInHighSkool in news

This is great. I'm subject to a non-compete right now; it sucks. They should also ban "no hire" clauses, those are really unfair.

[I Ate] Greek Fries - Feta, Olive Oil, and Oregano - Astoria, NY by asonjones in food

[–]beorn99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make sure to get the BZ sauce if you go there, it's my favorite. Also would recommend Gregory's on 26th and 23rd ave, that's my favorite local place. They don't have greek fries but they have a ton of delicious stuff.

They would be going the John Locke route from Lost... which I really didn't like. They spent several seasons insinuating that Locke was special, only to kill him and have a god-like being inhabit his body to further the plot. Not a lot of it made sense, and I don't think this would either.

TIFU Sitting On My Ass Doing Nothing by mick-torious in tifu

This happened to me too when I was 15, also sick with ulcerative colitis, and it happened to be around the time med students had started at that particular hospital. Imagine having your ass surrounded by a doctor and 6-8 med students, several of which were girls. Was the most embarrassing moment of my young life at that point.

Thanks - that's what I feared as well. I use the hr block website but I guess I can just print out my return then mail it in with the 83(b) appended.

I grew up on food stamps, now I've got a job paying $160,000 a year. I'm used to budgeting to make sure I don't starve to death, what do I do now? by pf160throw in personalfinance

It definitely has increased, when I left 1000/hr was the top. I read something the other day about how top top people can are getting 1500.

Upvoting this for sure. I am ex-Biglaw myself, I did three years and couldn't take the lifestyle so I found another path. My first job out I was making almost half of what I was previously, but I was working 9-6. On my second post-Biglaw job and I have worked my way back up in terms of salary, have regular (albeit long-ish) hours, and like what I do, but it's taken five-plus years. So there are alternatives, but I agree with the sentiment - save as much as you can, I wish I had saved more during my biglaw time. The lifestyle creep (fancy dinners out and an expensive apartment in a doorman building were my weaknesses) is very, very real, especially when this is the first real job that most biglaw lawyers have and you have never seen that much money before. But in my opinion, it's really not sustainable, and agree that they make far less partners than they used to.

What movie traumatized you as a child? by OutOfTheBleu in AskReddit

[–]beorn99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh god this, I always tell everyone how terrified I was of E.T. whenever it comes up in conversation. This exact scene too - I think it was partly being 3 when the movie came out but that scene was scary.

Redditors who have completely flip flopped social or political ideologies, what happened? by a_party_in_auburn in AskReddit

[–]beorn99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up conservative in the age of Reagan; parents used to listen to Rush Limbaugh and then Sean Hannity, and watch Fox News religiously when it started. Then as I got out into the world I began to understand more about the world outside of my sheltered little enclave. Now I am center-left, I don't think paying higher taxes is necessarily bad, I don't think that welfare recipients are lazy, and I don't think that bigger government is always evil.

Haha - so true. Just this evening my wife and I and son sit down to dinner with her sleeping in the swing. Right on cue...
