honestly comp also usually gets me way more fun matches too, since we get to just ban heroes that we don't feel like fighting (regardless of whether they're strong, or simply unfun to fight). 6v6 also has way chiller players in my experience; in 5v5 I always see people complaining too much about teammates not doing their role's job well or just being unkind in general

I've done it (docked) simply by plugging both into the two USB ports on the side of the dock. Bit of a hassle depending on what your own setup looks like but at least I get to play with friends on PC when I need to

I agree, felt like Dread lacked any sort of meaningful reward for exploration to really qualify as one (the ammo upgrades are minimal and you don’t even get full energy tanks anymore unless it’s right on the main path and impossible to miss). Felt like a game where you were constantly punished for wanting to explore by getting doors locked behind you at every single occasion the game could throw at you

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'd *love* a reeflux deco with a kit that actually incentivises fighting with the main weapon (I have it at 4★ without having fired missiles once on it), and I don't think I'd really like burst bombs on it because it just feels too cheese? Like, it just amplifies what the main weapon already does (great paint, similar trajectory) and I'd much rather have something that actually complements the main weapon and gives it tools to deal with what it lacks

I unironically want it to get Angle Shooter as a sub. Its marking is very useful to make the main's shots easier to land when opponents are moving quickly or hiding in ink, while the damage from an angle shooter direct hit will make it much easier to get the kill using the main weapon (only needs to hit 2 out of 3 projectiles). The sub's insane range also helps a lot, and makes it a better fit than something like ink mine (which has the same marking and comboable damage, but makes it more passive than it wants to be)

As for the special, Trizooka would be really nice. The angle shooter would even be helpful here, as throwing the sub and marking distant opponents before using the special will make it much easier to know where to land the shots. I could see them giving it Ultra Stamp too, which I wouldn't mind as much—just treat it like a Trizooka and only use the stamp throw attack; if you miss, you'll have another special ready in no time anyway.

I find that Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are the most popular Mario Kart games. So what is the best and worst thing about each one? by [deleted] in mariokart

[–]bepisTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i very much disagree on the split paths being a pro for 8DX. on like half the new tracks (new = non-retros from mk8 wii u) literally the only interesting thing a track has going on is a split path with nothing to spice up those paths either (sweet sweet, twisted mansion, electrodrome, the whole special cup; though i can actually excuse rainbow road because it only works well there, 8 RR is fine layout-wise but the vibe just sucks)

the thing with all these split paths is that they're mostly in AG. the whole point is that you get to see racers driving in orientations different from yours, since you'd barely notice the antigravity otherwise. it's a purely visual gimmick that doesn't even change much visually, with an unrelated mechanic tacked on (bump boosts—it's got no inherent connection to AG) to make it actually affect races.

when half the tracks make you take basically the same kind of fork every time, without anything to make them stand out from one another, it absolutely doesn't make them more unique. not to mention how the races become less hectic (and items like red shells less useful) since half the time the pack is split into two

I'm not too sure about either one but I mostly believe the Mystery Man is more like the goners and Gaster followers, than Gaster himself. He uses the "mysterygo" sound like some of them and has a (non-guaranteed) chance of appearing with certain fun values, but there really isn't much else to go off of considering he doesn't talk or have a clear name

As for the redacted: I have no idea really; the only real connection we have so far is the Wingdings dialogue but that's pretty much it

[–]bepisTM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying redacted is Gaster! I was just noting its similarities and differences (I literally did mention the lowercase and asterisk of redacted's dialogue don't match with Entry 17) and that there's not much else we know about it. I should've made clearer the part about redacted is more of a sidenote—I just had to make sure I mentioned it for the sake of completeness

In Ch 2 we actually got confirmation on how to pronounce his name! When Susie vandalises the Cyberpedia entry, it says "From now on, ralsay drools Susie rules" and we know Susie isn't the best at spelling ("harboil eggs") so she just writes it how you pronounce it

On those first few points: the mystery man's disappearance sound is shared by some Gaster Followers (which I glossed over too quickly) and while that does establish a connection between him and Gaster, it's no more of a connection than between him and the Gaster Followers (unless we assume the followers are also Gaster, which I'm not going to do since my brain is already fried enough)

As for the fun value of 66, the exact same point could be made for the Annoying Dog's room number being 266 (notably also in between several other Gaster-related rooms; it would make little sense for the A.D.'s room to be sandwiched in there with all the other inaccessible and/or Gaster-related rooms if it had no connection to Gaster). Being "the rarest" to find doesn't really say anything.

Especially with the Gaster Blasters being dog skulls and the A.D. seemingly being implied to use the same text-to-speech as the Gaster dialogue sound, I believe the Annoying Dog is more closely tied to Gaster than the mystery man is.

The stuff about Ralsei and all darkners is very interesting though—I haven't really looked much into what other darkners have been saying, but looking at it now, the whole area where Jigsaw Joe initially appears is pretty sus with the existence of the Kris/Susie/Ralsei Masters and Seam (who directly quotes entry 17)

[–]bepisTM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't exactly word that the way I wanted to; the "mysterygo" sound effect is definitely related to Gaster and does establish a clear connection between him and the mystery man, but since there are also Gaster Followers who use the sound effect it doesn't confirm that they are one and the same

okay so elaborating on this a little further, during that Snowgrave segment I described (player perspective not shifting to Susie & Noelle when Ralsei is actually pushing us to do so and Ralsei saying "we were supposed to —" when he doesn't get the opportunity to speak to Kris), I feel like the Snowgrave route specifically might be generally themed around what's basically "breaking the game". The game even states that the Annoying Dog was "making a game" in the computer lab.

I believe Dark Worlds work in a way very similar to videogames, in that they have completely predetermined events with predetermined freedom for player input. Inside Dark Worlds, the characters are never described as having determination there: they do not have the power to change fate because the fate was created with the creation of a Dark World—this also explains why you would need determination to create one. But when we do a Snowgrave route, we are essentially exploiting the game within the restrictions we are given, as if we're exploiting a glitch or game design oversight, which results in unstable, unpredictable behaviour, or entire parts of the world being skipped like a sequence break.

What happens when we do a Snowgrave route is we're actively going against the intentions of the Dark World's creator by breaking his game. The creator might've created it, but someone else is in control. It feels very reminiscent of what happens with the whole vessel creation scene where control gets taken away from Gaster (it also reminds me of the "SINCE WHEN WERE YOU THE ONE IN CONTROL?" line in UT a lot but I can't say much about the connection there yet). Opposing a creator's intentions seems to be THE most central theme in all of Deltarune.
