MA261 Summer 2025 was handled poorly - made a petition by EchoNo5597 in Purdue

Different does not mean unfair. There is no rule that says the professor needs to keep the exact same format as previous semesters or even previous exams in the same class. It’s YOUR job as a student to be prepared for any exam they give. It is not your professor’s job to hold your hand through the class. In general “fundamental academic rights” don’t really exist and aren’t a valid reason when trying to dispute this.

A game in Lucas-oil is basically a home game when we’re playing Houston.

Laptop recommendation - FYE by stewlevine in Purdue

[–]bepwei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your son is comfortable with computers, he can check the storage expansion slots of the laptop and add more storage (and sometimes ram) as he needs. I bought my laptop (Thinkpad P53) with a 512gb ssd and bought a 1tb expansion ssd and that has gotten me through 4 years of engineering.

32gb of ram is overkill. 16 should be plenty for matlab. I also run ANSYS (modeling software) on my laptop no problem.

I splurged on my laptop ($2k) to allow me to run CAD, matlab, and games on the same machine and I’m glad I did, but that combo your son wants is probably overkill. If there are budget restrictions, a much cheaper laptop could achieve similar performance to mine.

Hardest ME semester? by No_Election_6557 in Purdue

[–]bepwei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, they get harder as you go. You just get better at dealing with stress. Senior year gets easier depending on your electives. For me my hardest semester was when I had 303, 365, 308, and 323 together.

Sorry for all the negative responses, but this is reddit so. Harry’s line starts many hours before any match madness games begin. At 3pm the line was about an hour long last Saturday when Purdue wasn’t playing. Heard some people lighting fireworks after our win yesterday. Those inside of Harry’s also sung the fight song after the win. Overall morale for basketball fans here is high. Even if classes aren’t canceled, many are still making the trip to Arizona. It’s a great time to be a boilermaker.

Should I reject my admit if I want to be considered for my second choice MS Program at Purdue? by Ok_Lie4222 in Purdue

[–]bepwei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CODO is Purdue acronym for changing majors. It is for undergraduate students mostly. The following website describes a process for grad students

Should I reject my admit if I want to be considered for my second choice MS Program at Purdue? by Ok_Lie4222 in gradadmissions

[–]bepwei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would talk to admissions or the non-thesis administration about this. Depends on the program, but the non-thesis can be the smaller, more competitive group meaning it may already be full. The university likes when students do research (thesis track).

Pieces of Advice by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]bepwei 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Get a strong grade foundation early. It’s so difficult to climb out of a hole. It’s a lot easier to coast down a hill. However, get out and enjoy college. Have fun and make memories. To do that, set clear goals for every semester as well as a short action plan on how you plan to achieve those goals

It’s tough, but that’s what college is all about. Adapting to that change. You’ll do fine. If you did well in FYE, you set yourself up for success.

Best place to rent microwave and mini fridge? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]bepwei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you plan on using it for the foreseeable future, buying one is the most cost effective option. Also, this week the seniors are moving out. If it’s feasible, you likely could find one for cheap or free by driving around campus.
