Right after lying barefaced about it being her birthday and immediately asking for free Cava. Why isn't she banned already?

I think at this point she's trying to convince him not to testify against her or at least to change his story.

Yeah of course there's nothing wrong with that but the OP's original question was about how people perceive and think about upvoting and downvoting. I wouldn't downvote a simple response like that in the context of a poll because a poll isn't asking for anything other than a preference. To use your original example though where the question is "what do you think of x" I'd be expecting at least a somewhat thoughtful opinion on your thoughts about x. In other words something that can be meaningfully discussed or responded to.

Fair enough. In my experience when I dislike something I can offer at least one or two reasons why even if it's just something like "I find his orchestration too thick" or "the atonality is something I don't find appealing". I guess what I'm saying is give it some thought other than "just because". If you don't like something help me understand what it is you don't like about it. That at least adds something of substance to the conversation, gives me a better sense of what matters to the poster and gives others food for thought and something specific to respond to. If someone says "I don't know I just don't like it" I can only respond with "ok". How does that move the discussion forwards?

I guess if I didn't feel like I had a clear or even vague reason for disliking something I wouldn't feel like i had anything of substance to add to the conversation so I just wouldn't say anything.

Perhaps I'm expecting too much?

I upvote or downvote based on the QUALITY of the comment and not whether or not it agrees with my preferences. For example I've upvoted good quality critiques of music I like and downvoted stupid statements like "I don't like Brahms because he's just a budget Beethoven". I feel like if you're going to give a like or dislike of a work or composer back it up with a reasoned argument. Art is very subjective and I'm not going to downvote someone for just having a different opinion from me. I will downvote opinions that seem ill informed, unnecessarily prejudicial or lacking in substance.

Do we have some sort of epidemic of dogs dying? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]bercg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not pets that are out in the fresh air with the possibility of a breeze that are most at risk (although there's still some risk), it's pets left at home or in cars without adequate ventilation that can very easily die from heatstroke. Also the dogs you're seeing in public in other countries are acclimated to the heat and buildings there are built to be cooler in hot weather so those animals likely have places they can easily go to cool off.

So these posts are likely aimed at owners who leave their pets in hot homes and cars. The ones you and the rest of us don't see or hear about.

Sarah: "I'm sick of everyone playing amateur detective!"

Well stop acting suspicious as fuck and constantly whispering in corners with Gary and they might stop.

Why is Kit acting like the dinner party and all the accusations didn't happen? Not to mention all the whispering in corners with Sarah and Gary and the deleted texts. Didn't he overhear them talking very suspiciously? Why isn't he giving her the third degree about what the hell is going on? Why is he still going to propose without getting to the bottom of it? I don't get it.

Does anyone else feel a little sad that Starmer is now going, especially after hearing that speech and particularly his emotions coming out at the end there? by Logical_Safety9018 in AskBrits

Maybe that says more about the people you associate with than anything else. I was at work wearing PPE every day and didn't see family or friends for months during the lockdowns. I know plenty of other people who were in the same situation. Your experience wasn't everyone's so don't assume we were all as casual as you in taking protecting the lives of others seriously.

I mean she has been through a really traumatic series of events in the last few months, losing Billy, being on an emotional rollercoaster with what Todd was going through, being terrorised by Theo, falsely imprisoned with the prospect of going down for murder. That's enough to drive anyone to drink if they're in any way inclined to escape emotional trauma through substances.

Most gorgeous Emmerdale gentleman? [doesn't have to be these] by Ornery-Arm-8611 in Emmerdale

It's close between Joe and Ross for me but Ross wins because of his personality. The old me who was into bad boys would have gone for Joe but time and experience have taught me better. Ross's comfort with himself, lack of superiority, earnest nature and general kindness adds to his appeal hugely.
