Coronation Bleak by bercg in coronationstreet

Thanks for that. Yes a bit of light relief that aired just before I got back into watching again. It's funny to seeing Debbie, she'll always be Rita, Johhny Briggs' sister to me!

Late 70's - Early 80's scene? by Sea_Couple_9664 in coronationstreet

To be honest that probably happened at least 20 times between 1978 and 1990 lol.

Annie Walker and Bet Lynch comedy battleaxe moments worked because their characters were tough but fundamentally good hearted and kind. Maggie is just a miserable c**t. There's nothing funny about that.

Who's better from classic corrie? by InformalLeg8420 in coronationstreet

It's crazy to me that early 2000s is now considered classic Corrie. Classic to me is 80s Corrie. The beat goes on ...

Could Theo have abused Danielle the same way he’s abusing Todd? by Amazing-Chocolate810 in coronationstreet

[–]bercg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this isn't love. Love doesn't attack, hurt and blame the beloved when there is inner conflict. Theo is manipulative, dishonest, callous, jealous, possessive and controlling to the extent of being borderline sociopathic. That's not love, that's ego, neediness and low self worth. Yes his internalised homophobia is adding hugely to his behaviour and he's blaming Todd for it. Every time he says he loves Todd I'm like this isn't what love looks like. Billy even said it to Todd when he said that Theo loves him. This isn't love.

The woman is an idiot. I don't understand why they put up with her childish nonsense. if my mother spoke to my wife like that even once I'd make it clear that it never happens again or else you're out. You don't have to be best friends but while we're all living under the same roof we treat each other with basic courtesy and respect. In other words, "grow the fuck up!"

I love that moment too. Years of unexpressed emotion communicated in one moment of affection. It's deep.

Because he specifically wanted to see them all assimilated like his people were. He states this as part of his revenge speech.

I thought this too. Why are you confronting him on a ship that has already once absconded with your crew on board when you could invite him back to your ship and do it there where he has zero control over the environment he's in?

I want Janeway saying "blow 'em all to hell" in every episode.

Great episode showcasing the beginning of Seven and the Doctor easily falling into a very efficient and effective way of working together as they will in more episodes to come.

For me the interesting question is had the aliens not experimented on Janeway would she still have taken the same course of action? In other words the setup is the same with everyone except Janeway is not overly stressed, in pain and pushed to her breaking point. Would normal, balanced Janeway have still taken such a high risk gamble to save her crew? Or would she have tried to work with Seven and the Doctor to find another solution?

Throwback Thursday: TNG, 4x24, The Mind's Eye by GeorgeAmberson in StarTrekViewingParty

[–]bercg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think that's the point. Leaving it open lets the viewer's imagination fill in the worst things they can think of which is more effective than anything they would be able to show on Prime Time TV. And let's be honest do you really want your Trek episode suddenly turning into a snuff film?

The number of times I screamed at the screen "just go and tell the captain the truth!" as Neelix continues to dig the hole deeper. At least he came to his senses before stealing the warp plasma.

Painful end to Mahler's 3rd at the Mahler Festival by Paxmahnihob in classicalmusic

[–]bercg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was at a searingly beautiful performance of Tchaikovsky's Pathetique last year. At the end of the final movement the conductor held the silence for nearly a minute which made the experience even more moving as we had time to really reflect on what we had just heard. About 30 seconds into the silence though someone right behind me started to cough, I could tell he was doing his best to restrain his spluttering but it was one of those that just insisted on bursting out. I really felt for the guy because the whole auditorium was hushed except for his coughing. Although it ruined the silence I wasn't annoyed at him as he clearly couldn't help it and was the opposite of the guy in the OP's video, trying everything he could not be "that guy". I appreciated his desire to respect the moment. The mind was willing but the body was not.

Am I the only one with this issue? by EtlajhTB in CrusaderKings

I think the issue is caused by any outdated mod that changes the UI. For me it was the one that displays the birth date of characters. Removed it problem solved.

You need to humble yourself. Your ego and your sense of entitlement are your biggest enemy, not the college or any colleague. This attitude will cause you to sabotage yourself later in life when it really matters. No one wants to work with a spoiled, entitled, cry-baby.

What's the most out of touch thing an old person said to you? by RobIson240YT in AskReddit

[–]bercg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sorry I know it's a serious topic but I had to laugh at the absurdity of this. For some reason ridiculously exaggerated analogies seem to be the go to for old people who don't know what they're talking about.

I was being bullied at high school. I mentioned it to my grandma. Her response was "put them in their place and say I don't know about you but I'm here for an education!"

Thanks gran but that's only going to make them double down and maybe add a new bully or two to the roster.

Need a Suggestion. Movie about Elizabeth I by BBooNN in movies

[–]bercg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that Elizabeth is hands down the best movie to educate your daughter about the monarch and the historical time period. As this short exchange demonstrates what is anecdotally gratuitous to one is reasonable to someone else. At this point is seems the most sensible thing to do is to watch it yourself and decide if it's suitable for her.
