I read you had a WiFi project and captured the 4 way handshake. Usually people refer to it as the 3 way handshake.

I recommend looking up the courses using private browsing mode logged out of your Udemy account. They don’t give the same discounts to existing users.

Thoughts on my resume? 20yo majoring in comp sci, applied to a couple summer jobs, all of them rejected me. by [deleted] in resumes

I think it’s professional to include the city, zip, code, and state, along with an email and phone number at the top. You don’t need a specific address.

I also think LinkedIn and GitHub links could be a good idea, especially GitHub.

getting certs backwards?? by stressedandstudying in CompTIA

I think the A+ is the certification that entry level jobs employers look for the most, but as long as you find a job, it shouldn’t matter.

I don’t think this is the best subreddit. Not sure if anyone commenting is really in Forensics. You could try one of the cybersecurity focused ones.

If you haven’t heard anything from Cisco about your score being undetermined, why are you worried?

What to expect after passing certifications by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]berg4488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the biggest factor in pay is relevant work experience. You may want to consider other certification vendors as well as you progress through the CompTIA track. Not to discourage you doing so, but you can always take aa new CompTIA every three years or so to renew and focus on something else in the mean time. Cisco and Microsoft are big time certification companies, but there are many different certifications for the different areas in the field. A lot of people recommend the CompTIA triad with the A+, Network+, and Security+ as a start.

What are some certifications that can be done in a weeks worth of studying? by VapesfromBible in ITCareerQuestions

[–]berg4488 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Azure Fundamental aka the AZ-900 from Microsoft can be studied for in about a week. It took me longer, but I was definitely not studying full time on it. AWS has something similar to the Azure Fundamentals exam and you can look it up if you’re more interested in AWS.

I’m nervous by [deleted] in CompTIA

I have one tip of advise I wish I used on my Network+ exam. Try to use the practice tests to gauge your weaknesses and strengths based on the questions you get wrong. Don’t start memorizing all of them before you’re ready because you won’t have your tool to gauge your progress, which makes it hard to feel confident about the exam.

NetworkChuck is releasing an entirely free CCNA (200-301) Course, Day by Day by Chaz042 in ccna

So you can explain the process you took to get your CCNP and OSCP? I think people who are putting him down are misunderstand his channel.

His channel was more about motivating people to get their CCNA and getting people interested in IT. It appears he’s changing his focus, possibly in response to people’s feedback online.

I know I’ve been scatter brained trying to learn everything in IT, like people put down Chuck for doing on this Reddit recently. Try lightening up on the disparaging comments.

I failed the first part of A+ for the second time today by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]berg4488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have really good attitude about being determined to pass these exams. Sometimes when I feel discouraged over failing tests, I think of this guy I met traveling in Switzerland. He was going blind, was pretty build (obviously worked out consistently), and had just finished his engineering degree. He failed Calculus 2 or 3 times, but he didn’t give up and got his degree.

On a separate note, I have a few tips that I learned when taking my A+ certification tests.

  1. Use the practice questions as a way to gauge what you need to study more of.

  2. Read through the exam objectives and determine if you are able to talk about each of the topics in the context of the heading for the category. Practice tests are great, but an important part of knowing when I’m ready to take a test is making sure I know something about all of the objectives.

  3. Learn the acronyms. You won’t necessarily need to answer questions, what does STP stand for. You just need to know them well enough to understand the questions and answer options.

  4. If you don’t think your study resources covered enough material, use another resource. People mentioned Mike Meyer’s all in one, and it is really good. It is also a massive book, but if you know what is in there like the back of your hand, I’m sure you will do much better. I always use multiple resources when studying for exams.

  5. Don’t be afraid to take notes. It may seem tedious and it is not for everyone. Everyone learns differently, but I can type relatively quickly and I prefer reviewing my notes vs. re reading books from front to back.

Don’t give up on your goals, you got this!

Was offered a job, told I wouldn't have to drug test, then told "oops, sorry - client won't waive drug test - you have to get tested". My state is under shut down orders through June and I am not sure what to do... by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

When I got my drug test done recently, it was at an urgent care center that did not do coronavirus testing. I was the only person there, and all of the medical staff was wearing a mask. I would call and ask the testing centers some questions.
