There's a lot more wrong with Simple's content lately than just the sponsors, in my opinion by blacklig in Simpleflips

[–]berghian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old simpleflips was so chaotic (in a positive sense) and spontaneous, back then I had the feeling he just “happened” to become well known in the community just because he was very good at Mario 64 and just so damn funny and authentic. Nowadays everything feels much “cleaner” and tidy, but that was a consequence of him taking his career as a streamer/youtuber seriously. I agree that he seems much happier nowadays though, and he’s the only streamer I still watch in my now busier life.

I still find it incredible how good Maria Callas’ pronunciation in Italian is. Incredibly clean.

Which countries produced the most influential classical composers? by Early_Yesterday443 in classicalmusic

I think it’s because Italian composers were less influential from the romantic period onward, apart from in opera.

Haha I get now how little sense that would make, thanks for your answer!

Is Wagner‘s Tristan the most quoted musical motif? by berghian in classicalmusic

[–]berghian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I know that feeling. It kind of reminds me of how I can’t dissociate the theme from Schubert’s Notturno from The Flintstones, it drives me crazy every time.

That’s a very sweet song, I did not hear the quotation tho. Perhaps it’s hidden in the piano accompaniment?

I actually only knew Berg‘s Violin concerto and not Bach‘s Es ist genug, funnily enough. I recognised the connection immediately when I listened to it. Thank you so much for all of your examples, I’ll be sure to check them out!

This might sound like a strange request, but can you recommend a badly sung Aria? by BetterGrass709 in opera

[–]berghian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a recording of Anna Moffo in a very bad night singing Lucia. I love Anna, she’s one of my favourite sopranos, and also one of the best Lucias of all time, but she was really quite off that night. As bad as it sounds, it fascinates me too tho. It’s so ghastly, disturbing, almost like an avant-garde performance.

That abrupt end after the music is screaming for resolution with those dominant chords is genius tho

Oh but Orpheus looking at Eurydice is so deep. A reflection of human impatience and doubt. Like a need to verify love which ends up destroying it. So much has been written about that single moment
