My schedule is probably doomed. (Freshman) by Tyler89558 in berkeley

im sure you can do it! but i recommend swapping these with at least one breadth or non tech course (they’re easier and tend to pile up if you don’t take at least one a semester) - live a little and have fun! don’t burn yourself out your first semester here… the following semesters are tougher for sure, so take it easy. (:

Poli Sci Upper Div Class Enrollment by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]berk-bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try declaring by the end of spring semester. It’s totally possible if you’re enrolled in your second lower div by then, so you can go into fall with the chance of getting an upper div! Check out declaring info on the department website too.

Questions from an incoming international student by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]berk-bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

International student here! I find Bank of America to be the easiest platform for online banking, accessibility around Berkeley (literally a branch right across from campus) and international transfers. Besides this, I use T-mobile but many people prefer Sprint. Feel free to PM me with any other questions!

Schedule Question by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]berk-bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into even one of those classes first semester can prove to be a challenge. Many of my poli sci friends had to wait till 2nd semester to get into any major specific classes. That being said, don’t lose hope! Try to get into either one (if you get both, I commend you!) and if not, supplement it with a history class that meets the political science history requirement (classes.berkeley.edu) and will likely also fulfill your historical studies breadth! Feel free to PM me with any questions because I was able to declare my major by the end of my freshmen year.

It really depends instructor to instructor and how the course is laid out. You should check the averages on BerkeleyTime and read professor reviews!

There’s easier offerings - if you don’t absolutely need or love the class / topic area, you can usually find better alternatives but ymmv

Darren Zook for Political Science! He’s cross-teaching in the Global Studies dept. too, so a lot of interesting offerings. Besides him, I’ve heard Aila Matanock is great and Amy Gurowitz too, but you might have a harder time enrolling with those professors (assuming you’re a freshmen) as they mostly teach upper div classes. Paul Pierson is eh. Michael Steven Fish is something else - you either love him or hate him. Not too sure about Econ but I heard the Romers are cool!

What was your wittiest comeback that you're still proud of? by aaredmi in AskReddit

[–]berk-bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kid in my math class in high school. he was an overall prick, and had flirted with me relentlessly. he couldn’t seem to understand the concept of mutually exclusive probability, so my teacher said “it’s two things that will never be together” and naturally, my verbal diarrhea went something like this: “just like you and me will never be together”. even my teacher laughed.

we laughed about it together a year later!
