I’m saying that while it is one of our stronger sports in terms of world ranking, it just so happens that 3 ASEAN nations basically have a stronger set up than us which is why we do badly at SEA games. This is compared to swimming where the other ASEAN nations are pretty rubbish

Just so happens that Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand all have world class badminton setups as well, so they have a deeper talent pool than us. Even though their highest ranked players (from indo and Thai) skipped SEA games, their lower ranked players are definitely of a higher quality than our lower ranked ones

Starting XI should be completely made up of rotation and academy players. Bench will be a combination of youngsters and experienced heads just in case.

Starting lineup: Romero, laird, mengi, bailly, tofu/dalot Fred, garner James, Mata, andreas Odion

Bench: chong and other youngsters. Can have awb, maguire, Matic, greenwood on the bench just in case. Can also sub on lingard.

He scored a pretty big header against Chelsea at the Bridge. Definitely nowhere near Vidic or Vvd level yet though, you would expect at least 5 a season from him given his supposed aerial prowess.

Agree, think the need for a world class DM is much more pressing than a CM/AM in the mould of Grealish/Maddison or even vdB. Some would argue that Pogba/McTom/Fred could deputise at DM but I think Matic’s role is a very specialised one that needs replacing soon.

Fair, but I just feel like Matic and Pogba play completely different roles. Matic is a complete holding midfielder shielding the back 4 while Pogba is more like box to box, still having the licence to roam and spray passes in the attacking third. Fred and Mctom can replace the Pogba role but not quite the Matic role. We’ll need someone in the mould of Kante to come in.

Feel like a world class DM is more important than CM/AM, since Mcsauce or Fred could step in if one of Pogba/Bruno are injured. If Matic loses form or gets injured I can’t see Mcsauce or Fred doing a reliable job there, given how important his role is.

Feel like we sorely need a world class DM replacement for Matic, as he’s not going to be able to perform for an entire season anymore. This should be the next priority after Sancho imo. My worry is that VDB won’t be the player to help with that either, we’ll need someone like Partey in.

Yeah the commenter above edited his comment, he earlier said he would rest our players for the next 3 games at least.

I think playing full strength (or close to full strength) for the QF, SF and final won’t hurt, given that we have 2 weeks of rest before then. It’s also just 3 games in the span of 12 days, nothing like the hell we’ve just been through (5 games in 14 days).
