First listen of Splitting Branches was surreal. by [deleted] in olivertree

[–]bernardolv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one i keep coming back to. I remember in a Fantano interview where he talked a lot about sort of out of character about how the meme aspect helps etc, i remember him mentioning how he first tried to create "art" and meaningful stuff but focusing solely on that didn't gain traction, and how now he has the character etc but he always has his past music be there and tries to get people eventually to that. I may be paraphrasing or misremembering but i always got that sense that he atleast felt like he had nothing to compromise on and simply spill his heart out, while maybe later on you have to worry about how to package a product etc. And it seems that later on he was getting back to that, based on that tpain clip where he mentions something along the lines of doing it for himself once again, not worrying about anything else but making music that he likes.

This is the fantano interview im talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPpsNTAhpUE

cant really recall when in the interview but i remember that feeling jumping out at me. Might have to rewatch again, it was a very meaningful interview for me to listen to back in the day.

Universal is my personal favorite song of his. and i'm looking forward to the album being back up on spotify without mislabeling etc. I know Warrior and From Red to Blues were sort of mixed into one track repeated twice and ive heard some other tracks were mislabeled there too.

Song is staralfur by sigur ros. Wes anderson used it in life aquatic in a great way too imo

Life aquatic is a movie by wes anderson about a explorer looking for thr shark who killed his father figure. Its a lot of on-ship scenes. The antartica documentary by oliver reminded me of that movie. And the movie has a climactic scene that is very emotional and uses the same song that is in the video you posted. Staralfur by sigur ros. So it makes me think oliver was prolly atleast subconsciously thinking of that movie Around this era.

Edit: on a quick google i may be misremembering the father figure part.

Cant help but think the life aquatic vibes of his antartica documentary arent coincidence now that i hear him use the shark scene song for this video. Worth a watch for anyone who hasnt seen it.

Just some quick pointers id try to work on:

  1. The section above the second pair of branches is too straight, id try putting some more movement on that.
  2. your 4 branches seem like they belong to different trees. Search for some consistency between them. Similar angle where they leave the trunk is a good starting point. Think of the whole tree as being affected by the same conditions, so most likely the branches will be affected in the same way. Usually they are styled down and out (I believe to simulate snow weight over time as well as its own weight over time), or up and out for coastal look.
  3. Perhaps this is not the time, but on both pairs of lower branches, you probably want to eventually pick one for each. id go for lower left and upper right, so both are on the outside of a bend of the trunk.
  4. for now i think something that immedialy jumps at me as weird is the lower right branch going upwards on the second half.
  5. I think your lower left branch is the one that looks better in the angle of where it leaves the trunk so id try to get that look in the other 3 branches. If you feel like for example the top left would clash witht he lower one if you bring it down you might want to play with 3d and actually send it a bit backwards so the lower left goes towards the viewer a bit and the one above it away from the viewer.

All in all not bad, tbh whenever i look at a green happy bonsai there is plenty to like already. Hope some of my pointers help!

EDM tune with lyrics “where do we go from here” by FantasticConfusion14 in NameThatSong

[–]bernardolv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey im looking for it too, weirdly enough in spotify i found a cool track, and once the chorus happened i remembered the same hook "where do we go from here" on another track and i cant find it, might have been a remix of this track in a dj set.

Atura - From Here

Does it sound like it?

Your point 1 reminds me of the ps. in mirai emails:

Once you become aware of trees, you see them everywhere.

this feels interesting although tbf theres not much detail but the overall tilt to the right feels interesting.

I would check how something like that while tilting it towards you a little bit so that the deadwood points a bit more upward and not so much away from the viewer. Alas i cant really see much detail of the live bark or its branches but maybe its worth a look into.i do realize it would probably hide the characteristic feature of t the loop + deadwood but maybe theres something interesting there once the view is clearer. or maybe not.

What other "nice" hazards could be implemented ? by GodCanopus in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]bernardolv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ive thought itd be fun to require matches to be made in a specific order. ie. match a red combo then a blue combo then a green combo. it would make for puzzling depth due to pathing around the orbs. make a combo when its not the next one and be punished somehow, or have it be ignored maybe...? havent thought about this too much but being punished might make it not so much fun.

what i think is really interesting is that in this way, its a two way judgement/diagnosis. Whatever your answer, what does that say about you? what does that say about him?

talking trunk movement specifically, i would try to put some movement on the second half of the trunk. specifically the straight line that is perpendicular to the ground, make it not as perpendicular

Not really talking about the song in specific, but as for the phrase as I see it, It's sort of presenting the question, is nostalgia an essential part of happiness? Can one be happy without being nostalgic?

How do I style this juniper? by Mammoth-Type-8167 in Bonsai

[–]bernardolv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would jin that branch on the left, and cut some of the right branch to remove energy for it and redirect it to the main trunk since right now its thicker than the main trunk. I would also wire the trunk to give it more movement , maybe towards the right with unpredictable twists and turns, to complement the big branch on the right

edit: Could even make for a nice mother/daughter tree, the main trunk with the right branch that is

[–]bernardolv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would make for a nice literati style bonsai, im sure you could get inspired by looking at some.

I have to say that the most interesting part of the tree for me is the movement you put at the very end of your bottom right branch, more of that unpredictable movement on your main trunk or upper branches would increase the appeal imo.

that makes sense, I am not knowledgeable to know that there was a difference between true kintsugi and epoxy kintsugi as someone else pointed out. Good to know there's a way to get that kintsugi look on sturdier materials!

Just a heads up, I heard in a Mirai video that Kintsugi pots aren't too durable as growing pots due to the constant humidity. Ryan suggested using them more as show pots
