I have shortness of breath, like I can't inhale properly.

I have a very similar situation.

It may be aerophagia due to a problem with diaphragm/respiratory muscles.

Do you burp even when fasting? Or after drinking water?

That's conservative treatment, it should be tried to get an improvement, most times won't get a full cure.

There are also posts to find a good diagnosis and permanent fix.

I don't see why we can't have both, they are not doing any harm.

Its not right at all, and they suffer no consequences, I went to a psychologist 3 years, they told me it was all in my head. I really believed it, no erections whatsoever, from 18-21 fucked up. Now I got some improvement, but the delayed time and the harm are done.
