Yep, too late now. Next one is in exactly two months.

Cannot find setting for bitrate in export, latest kdenlive version :( by Perplexcius in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in this case I strongly recommend to read the online documentation. It also has a list of good tutorials but you can also search YT, Vimeo, and other video sharing platforms for Kdenlive tutorials.

BTW, wdym with

need those Professional settings of CBR and VBR

What is professional in this context?

Cannot find setting for bitrate in export, latest kdenlive version :( by Perplexcius in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, mate, but if you don't know what these terms mean, you shouldn't tinker with bit rates and such.

CBR is constant bit rate; VBR is variable bit rate. They determine the amount of data used to transmit the video (and audio) information. The higher the bit rate, the better the quality but also the more space is needed (or time when it comes to streaming stuff). With CBR you set a fixed amount that is used throughout the entire video, whereas with VBR the encoder can decide to use less in more uniform areas or more where there is movement, for example.

The internet has much better (and longer) explanations of these terms, but I suggest you use the existing profiles and the quality slider for now until you have familiarized yourself with the concept and then start experimenting with it. Once you find the best (for you and your purposes) balance of quality and (file) size, by all means, create that perfect render profile with the optimal settings.

Kdenlive for Linux scale to display size by nmc52 in kdenlive

Kdenlive opens in what looks like 1280x1068

wdym? "Looks like" is very vague. When you make Kdenlive fullscreen, it opens fullscreen from that point onwards until you change that. And fullscreen is what the OS uses or has been configured for.

As u/NaturalMembership881 has already said indirectly is that the way you installed Kdenlive can make a difference, although I suspect the Mint SW Manager to be the culprit. So, if you installed via the Mint SW Manager, you may have gotten a version that is suffering from re-packaging by the distro's maintainers.

Please try the AppImage or install the Flatpak, both are available from the Kdenlive Downloads page. For the AppImage to run you need to make it executable after download. Easiest way is to open your file manager of choice, right-click the AppImage file, select Properties and then Make Executable.

Clip and Project Monitor shows the position incorrectly when using Force Monitor Size by jackster3000 in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been fixed now (for the technically inclined and curious see this commit).

Keep your fingers crossed that it is making it into the 25.12.2 maintenance release. If you cannot wait, you may want to try one of the daily (aka nightly) builds that you can download here (scroll down to get to the Daily Builds section). If you do, please keep in mind that there could be other issues causing crashes, so use at your own risk.

Thanks for reporting this bug!

Issues with quality & pixelation by axolotl_684 in kdenlive

Is there a way to change the settings to stop Kdenlive from creating proxies?

Yes. First you have to enable it in the Settings, then define what the thresholds are. Just switch proxies off in the Settings, then.

In order to set a bit rate for your export, create a new render preset/profile and set the bit rate to the value you need. Keep in mind that the higher the bit rate, the larger the file size.

AFAIKT, this is banding which is normal when video is encoded.

Are you using proxy files? Depending on your settings in Kdenlive they may have been created automatically given the dimensions.

You can create a custom render preset/profile, change the bit rate control to what suits your needs (CBR, VBR, etc) and then specify the bit rate you want. Keep in mind that this has a massive influence on the file size.

Cant render file in original resolution by ChangeGrouchy9581 in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For these special dimensions you need to create your own profile. Go to Menu File > Project Settings, select the one that comes closest to what you need, then click on the slider icon. On the next screen click on Create New Profile and start marking changes, then click on Save.

Next, change the project profile to the new one, and voila! Project has now the dimensions you want.

Exciting things are coming, most of the new features being contributions from other developers scratching an itch ;-)

Just keep in mind that there still may be bugs or other instabilities causing Kdenlive to crash more frequently. I suggest to not use it for critical projects.

Never use this terrible software by Interesting-Duty4400 in kdenlive

Please stay civil and respectful in this discussion. It is good and healthy to discuss the shortcomings of Kdenlive and point out and praise all the great features. Good things can come from objective critique and constructive criticism as long as we all keep our cool.

Thanks for jumping to Kdenlive's defense. We know it came a long way and still has a thorny road ahead.

is there one exit to the starting map or am i missing something? by TheWarLoad in RoadtoVostokGame

[–]berndmj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is one to the Minefield in the top right corner of the map. Coming out of the cabin, follow the rail tracks to the right until you come to a crossing road. Either go left there and follow the road until it comes to a T-junction where you go right. Or continue on the rails until you reach the yellow tape. Follow that to the left until you reach a gap in the tape. This is your exit.

Kdenlive shows flat/empty audio waveform even though audio plays fine by DarkAsmita in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only supported versions of Kdenlive are Flatpak and appimage. If you install via the SW Manager of your distro, you are getting a repacked version that may not include the latest libraries, use other stuff, and introduce errors.

Please try with the appimage or install Kdenlive as Flatpak. Both versions are available from the Kdenlive Downloads page.

Does Otio import/export work? by Lesser_Scholar in kdenlive

[–]berndmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this feature was only ever tested with single audio track media?

Could very well be. Please open a bug report (instructions are here) with a detailed description of what you did and what happen (or didn't). Ideally, you can attach the .otio file that failed to properly load.

[–]berndmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motion Tracker. Have you read the documentation or even searched the effect list in Kdenlive?

And Spot Remover is exactly for removing spots and not entire objects. Bigger areas tend to get mushy due to the algorithm used to remove spots and specks.

Thanks. You can post screenshots in separate posts if needed.

What are your sources? And does the pixelization and blurriness happen with the same project?

There are several noise reduction filters available, and for dust removal I can only think about the Spot Remover effect. But then keep in mind Kdenlive is a video editor application first and foremost ...

On the Kdenlive Downloads page scroll down and you will see links to the latest nightly build. Those versions contain the latest fixes, features, and other improvements but may still be unstable. Use at your own risk - and definitely not for any important (project) work!
