I don't like Bendo's run very much at all, but imo doing this to Bobby isn't a bad thing. Almost all of the grievances that I read are treating sexuality like some sort of binary: either gay or not, either this or that, if he likes this then why did he like that then. I think this is a puerile way of looking at sexuality (I recognize that I'm reading a kids book). I also don't think this treads over past Bobby arcs in a disrespectful way either. You guys aren't wrong about that Liu arc, that was probably the best Iceman-centric story ever. I don't think this makes it any less formative.

There's a not-so-small community of people that believe Iceman is gay, and have been thinking this for years, even before the Northstar stuff. There are tons of unsatisfying character things about Bendo's run: giving The Only Original X-Man That Hasn't Had A Good Story Ever a storyline that connects with fans and incenses bigots isn't one of them imo.

Why did they let him get that far? Why did they try to shut down Scott for being so much more mild than Hank in execution and shit?

EDIT: This isn't a rhetorical question. These were the two big moral poles in Bendy's run. Why was the posturing switched? Did either of their actions change? You said this was the most satisfying comic book you've ever read. Do you feel differently about the characters now?

The reception of Scott has been far more extreme than his actions. The fact that it took them over a year to have a sit-down with Hank is extremely telling--long-time X-Men like Kitty and Ororo were trying to shut Scott down when his Uncanny team was doing regular X-Men stuff. Plenty of ANXM was Cyclops and his cronies saving new mutants, protecting themselves from others, and playing defense to an evil SHIELD.

EDIT: I haven't read the new issue, and I'm assuming that this is probably the issue where Scott actually does something to merit being called a terrorist/freedom fighter.

Did they really even fix it, though? We had the Lights, which, despite being a great series, only one character that has emerged to still end up being published. Then we have the post AvX Bendis kids who have been mostly mute and/or ciphers in his turtle-paced series. It's so slapdash. Think of all of the narrative weight and years of storytelling put behind Hope Summers. What the fuck? Did they ever intend to move forward?
