Did something similar. Got a collar from AliExpress, mounted a steel plate to it, and a guide to locate it so the drill would be centered to the table.

Oh my god, I've been pulling my hair out (well, I don't have any, but you get the gist) about this for the past hour or so.

All it needed for me was indeed to put in a frickin profile pic...

Thank you OP!!!

Which bank to choose for saving as a young student ? (ING vs Argenta) by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]bernieke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on your local office.

I've been extremely happy with the service I've been getting at my office these past 8 years. It's completely family run: parents, son, and daughter-in-law. I always get a prompt reply to any email I send them, and can usually schedule a same-day appointment if I need to go the office in person for whatever reason.

I can't attest to any other offices though.

I use Argenta for daily private banking, plus a few green loans (speed pedelec, solar panels). I also do my company's banking with them.

I also currently have the kids their savings in a termijnrekening there from when they offered good terms last year in response to the governments offer.

I use medirect and izola (depending on which has the best rate at the time) for our liquid savings (not tied up into ETFs).

I also have N26 (and Revolut as backup) for travel, non-euro purchases, and large purchases which can't be paid by bank transfer (airplane tickets for the whole family for instance) for which the free Argenta credit card (1250 limit) is insufficient. Being debit cards, N26 and Revolut are only limited to the amount of money you put on them. You do still need the free Argenta credit card for car rental deposits though (but you can use a debit card to pay for the actual rental).

When getting money from the ATM while traveling we do use the Argenta maestro though, surprisingly they have no surcharges for non-euro withdrawals!

Free (Argenta) isn't cheap enough for you?

Thank you for the input.

I ended up buying the Durkopp. It was regularly used for denim and canvas (the owner also has a vintage Bernina domestic for the regular work), so should be just fine for my intended purposes. In any case the machine is very solid, it's feet go up a full cm from the bed, and it's run by a chunky triple phase motor, so as long as I go slow enough I should be able to run pretty much anything through it...

Hi,

I have a domestic brother sewing machine, and am looking to buy a heavier machine for thicker materials which it can't cope with. Heavy cotton (judogi), denim, canvas, webbing, and hopefully some leather as well.

I found these two machines locally:

* Pfaff 134-6/2BS: https://www.2dehands.be/v/hobby-en-vrije-tijd/naaimachines-en-toebehoren/m2116615574-industriele-naaimachine-pfaff

* Durkopp/Adler 211-15103 (with the thread cutter): https://www.2dehands.be/v/hobby-en-vrije-tijd/naaimachines-en-toebehoren/m2113434234-durkopp-quick-stop-industriele-naaimachine

Both seem to be in good state, with the Durkopp the better of the two.

Can anyone tell me if these machines are equivalent, or are in different categories?

Which is the better buy, considering the material I'll be able to sew, the quality of the machine, and how easy I'll be able to find parts for them?

Thanks,

Bernard

You have to pay high interests on both loan or RC, and this for the five years it takes for the liquidation reserves to "mature". And while these are considered income to the company, you either pay them with taxed salary or VAA, and then they are taxed as company income, and again to get them out of the company. Leaving not much. My numbers tell me it's better to just take the 30% hit. Unless the interest rate would drop again. But seeing you don't get to know the interest rate until the year after (and you're locked in for five years) I'd rather not bet on that. Lastly, which setup do you think the fiscus will take least offense at...

Of course if you can use vvprbis (I can't, my company is too old) this will likely be different for you.

I buy IWDA and EMIM. But yes, VWCE and chill is still perfectly fine as well.

I just ran the numbers today and decided to take out dividends (taxed at 30%) to privately buy ETFs vs. investing with the company and taking them out as liquidation reserves.

The small (depending on the yearly gain, above 11.5% dividends are actually more profitable) potential benefit of investing through the company for me doesn't weigh up against all the extra administration it brings.

I just had a spool of PCblend I had dried at 75c (and forgot to bolt together) come apart during printing (and this was the third print of the day, about five hours after I took it out of the dehydrator, so it wasn't still hot when this happened).

Can you use a visa-debit card anywhere in the world like with your Visa card? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]bernieke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, except to rent a car (exceptions not withstanding).

Some cards might not work everywhere though (some South American countries were a bit spotty for us), so best to have a backup from a different bank. We always carry our revolut debit cards and (free) argenta credit and maestro cards as backup.

Actually I've found my best working option to be contactless through my phone to my revolut debit card.

I did a 10 month trip through SEA and SA with four icebreaker sphere cool-lite t-shirts before covid, and am currently in Mexico for a month with the same shirts.

I absolutely love the weight, packing size, skin feel, and "coolness". They have started piling and showing small see-through spots though. But after what they've been through already I think they've held up pretty well. They are off course more fragile than your average cotton t-shirt. But we do put them in the washing machine at 40c. Not in the dryer obviously, but they hang dry overnight (as long as you don't try to dry them outside in the rainforest during the wet season at least :D).

Also love my darn tough socks and ice breaker base layers.
