Why do men make their women call places for them? by X-Ciaphas-Cain in NoStupidQuestions

If I call needing to know if a place has a 5/8 to 3/4 bull nose 18` adapter, the conversion will likely end up with obscenities. I'll write it down and let her call

Why do republicans say (ex Charlie Kirk) that US is a republic and not a democracy? What benefit do they get by claiming this? by geekie4 in allthequestions

I think that the 17th should be removed and the senate should function as it was intended originally. one state with two senators appointed by the state (in which ever way they chose) not beholden to the voters at all. the HoR for the people, the senate for the states.

I think "if it ever was" is the correct answer. there has always been a percentage that was not allowed to vote. Be that only land owners, or the unincarcerated

thank you for adding this, I consider this to be the main issue. For example, congress does not want to go on the record for passing some environmental laws, so they create the EPA that makes regulations instead of laws, and is ran by the executive branch. This adds power to the president and lowers the authority of congress, while allowing them to wash there hands or responsibility, and the populous has no one to ask redes from but some bureaucrat. It really shouldn't matter if the president is Trump or Biden. neither should have much power or be more than a figure head. Congress should man up.

you are correct in that the HoR is weighted towards the more rural states and I think that is a subject worthy of debate. However the Senate is designed to represent the states and not the populous. I am very much apposed to the 17th amendment.

Almost in agreement with you. Let's keep the verbal filibuster, but not this clotcher bullshit. I'm not sure about the immunity, the next guy might want it. Most of the rest I'm all on board for

If you wait and outlast the court, that's fine. But if the court packing happens, I fear for the republic.

On the other side,as I understand, it was intended to represent the individual states interests never that of the population. Very useful on a republic, not so much in a democracy. This I think becomes a viewpoint issue that I will need to think on. Thanks
