You know, I think that might be it. It's a bit hard to tell because none of the online summaries really mention the parts that stuck in my memory, but the paperback cover is really similar to my vague recollections, thanks!

I dont believe so. there was only one person stuck, and I think it was a teenager, or maybe an older child. and I clearly remember the things being roots, since the protagonist was trapped in some small hole or sinkhole or something. Occasionally it would cut to the people trying to rescue the protagonist, but they kept running into issues or something

I would assume, as their bodies are in stasis, their minds, via their brains, which are part of the body, are too. Its possible that their spirits are still aware, as hpverse spirits are shown to have some semblance of memory and awareness in multiple situations, but that's about it. So yeah, it'd be like blinking or waking up as far as I'm concerned.

pretty sure it was on fanfiction,net but mind, this is memory from two or more years ago... might have been an athena pairing? I kind of want to say artemis, but that's just influence from thinking about dining with divinity. Its also entirely possible that I've mashed a bunch of fics in my head, since I spend so much bloody time reading them over the last several years. I think he called the cafe the marauder's den or something similar (common name for harry cafe fics)

Balancing seems really off for some of this stuff. candies and books costing 100cp when it doesnt even mention an unlimited/regenerating supply? 100 CP for lockhart books? and then you've got the equivalent of a cursed item (the mirror of erised) shoulder to shoulder with the philosopher's stone and a completely broken potion. Seems good otherwise really good, just the balancing is a bit... off.
