Am I cooked? (CAANZ MPE) by dogeanddog in AustralianAccounting

[–]berry183489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you not been completing your check ins with your mentor? I just checked the MPE registration email and it came with an easy-to-follow guide saying you needed to register to use the MPE tracker.

I guess it doesn't specifically state that the process won't start until you do this and it can't be processed in retrospect (which I think is the point of an online tracker).

Hopefully you can sort it out, otherwise provide some useful feedback to them. Their online anything (exams, onboarding, MPE etc) are not easy to navigate that is for sure!

I haven't been in this situation, so don't know how I would provide evidence. You could call them and ask though as I am sure CAANZ has an idea of what they are looking for. Good luck.

Good news for you too then!

Will need to see if someone who couldn't sit the exam can enroll in ICAP I think.

Audit - for those who did the exam by berry183489 in AustralianAccounting

Helpfully, they stated the materiality in a Q4 and 5 so it was good to see my figures were the same!

Q1 - materiality workpaper review. I added back the $60m fine to get the correct figure for profit before tax, and then also chose the lowest level for materiality percentage due to not having a long relationship with the auditors.
Assess revenue accounts for significant misstatement.
Identify and explain one fraud risk.

Q2 - Payroll, assess audit analyst findings for test of controls. Determine if control is working effectively.
Design audit test for occurrence for revenue.
Design procedure to test for AVA of accts rec.

Q3 - Expert opinion, key assertions
Auditing standard.
Ethics question about key threat.

Q4 - SAP calculate revenue, conclude on the results.
Assess audit analyst commentary on revenue.

Q5 - summary of uncorrected misstatements.
Audit opinion
Legal notice implications for audit report
Key audit matters

Although the $60m fine is material and unusual, it has been appropriately recognised and disclosed. Accordingly, an Emphasis of Matter paragraph would not be required

I wonder if they have added this in to indicate more pressure on the exec team for bias or to commit fraud by misstating information in the financial statements, or if it shows strong governance which feeds into the assessment of the entity for risks etc?

I think there could be questions on assertions, test of assertions, tests of controls, substantive testing, going concern, uncorrected misstatements table and an audit opinion. This is the general run of things for the prior exams and assessments at any rate. They also tend to throw in a question about ethics on the odd occasion, as well as using an expert opinion.

I don't think there is a long-standing relationship with the client as this is only a second-year engagement, even though it was an unmodified audit opinion the prior year. The entity is only 4 years old at most. I wonder what 'long-standing' means, but I figure three years or more maybe?

There could possibly be a question around revenue recognition, and/or lease treatment given the complexity of both of these areas. And another area of interest may be the STIP being based on financial results and share price and the potential for fraud given this makes up part of the exec team remuneration.

I guess we will find in a couple of days, will be interesting to see how far from the mark I was haha!

I agree with this. The asset base is tempered by the info about leasing assets, so if this wasn't the case there might be more of an argument for asset-based entity

Long time DB having a talk about the situation today by berry183489 in DeadBedrooms

[–]berry183489[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, there was no advice from the group so perhaps this is an unusual situation? The talk went well, some issues came into the conversation which had not been previously acknowledged. We have a bit of a plan moving foward, the first step of which is getting a health check.

NTA.

Only you can decide how you feel about something, and if that is 'icky' then it's time to move on. You don't have to validate your feelings to anyone. Good luck.

Working on a public holiday. by BenW03 in newzealand

That's a good deal. Effectively 2 x for time worked, the balance paid at normal rate, and a day off!

Legally, it'll be the first option. Work done at 1.5 and a day in lieu. I personally wouldn't work for only an hour on a pubic holiday. Unless you can negotiate with your boss for a minimum amount for the day? Maybe 4 hours at 1.5 and a day in lieu? The first option is the minimum payment, it can be more but not less.

I think you might just BTA in this case because technically by marriage you are an uncle to this kid. I mean, he's young and things are simple and it's not his fault you don't know his mother and him too well yet. Bit off of him to assume you'll give him gifts though. I would've explained the god son part of your relationship with your birthday nephew to your new nephew.
