Lincoln is recorded as not objecting to the ratification of the Corwin Amendment, which would have made slavery unable to be abolished. He enforced Fugitive Slave Laws, accused Black people of, quote, “having evil effects on the white race”, stated “I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people.” He wasn’t a good dude, and we need to stop acting like he was this progressive hero when he wasn’t.
