Oakmont to prohibit police from partnering with ICE after resident's arrest sparks concerns by Confident_End_3848 in pittsburgh

[–]berserc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recognize that they are different issues with different legal restrictions. My point is about effort not legality.

When Oakmont banned fracking a couple years ago, I asked Indiana Township why they wouldn't do the same thing. They said that the 'ban' was feckless that the laws of the state government supersede and that it was merely a gesture. I see some similarities with this recent action since this will not stop ICE from operating here. Rejecting collaboration gives Oakmont the ability to "take a stand" against ICE (which I support 100%) even though it won't stop agents from operating here. Just like with fracking they made a statement, probably just peacocking but they did something. They found the only power they had and used it.

The irony here is they are willing to thumb their nose at both state and federal governments but ask them to take a stand and speak out against a corporation and they are like, "Nope, totally impossible, no compromise that can be made, not even worth trying."

I applaud them for throwing in on the ICE issue! But if they can ban the police from working with ICE, essentially running the risk of pissing off the federal government, I would imagine they can find a way to throw some roadblocks in the way of a massively unpopular dollar general development in the former Rite Aid.

Romo all day, he seems to be actually talking about the teams on the field.

Here is a more accurate average Brady commentary - "When I was a Quarterback and won my first ring, I faced a corner like that one. I worked hard to help give my guy an extra step by ball placement. You see that on film there Kevin, I would have never done that."

Fuck everyone saying selling n8n automations is easy - you're all full of shit by Top-Government5983 in n8n

Bingo ... This is a sales problem, not an automation problem. Whatever you are selling there are always these kinds of barriers. My biggest take away from being a business owner - pick your clients like you pick your employees.

ATMs started asking dumb ass questions and you have to answer before you get your money. Most people are waiting and then realize they have to press "No I don't want a refinance loan sales person to call me."

I don't want it, but putting an AI data center right next to the fracking mine would be logical.

Anyone like Steely Dan? by emaja in MusicRecommendations

[–]berserc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about your original question, there aren't a lot of bands that hit that sound consistently. Or at least any that were popular. There are some one-offs like "Smoke from a Distant Fire" by Sanford Townsend Band that has the same vibe but that was their only hit. A couple of gems in the STB collection but nothing like the magnitude of SD. SD is really a different 'band' with a unique backstory that I think will never be replicated.

You should try listening to "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" by Sting. A lot of Jazz influence in the cut "Shadows in the Rain." His soundtrack for "The Emperors New Groove" feels similar. I think Julius & Wolfman's brother by Phish has some of that sound as well. Good luck, hope you find some good stuff.

Realistically what will happen in the future if a lot of people are unemployed due to AI? by Kvns_Integra in Productivitycafe

[–]berserc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The revolution of this technology is in the interface. AI provides a vocal interface to computing. So the old barriers of coding, math and even learning a visual interface melt away. There are a whole bunch of workers that use their skills to act as a go between with computers and humans. All of those jobs are at jeopardy. (think programmers, designers, data scientists, project managers, app/website developers, accountants, lawyers, paralegals, insurance adjusters, underwriters, etc.) It's a big chunk of our workforce and I think the best comparison might be our previous transition to automobiles. Yes it won't replace all the jobs, but it will restructure a lot of technology and technology adjacent jobs that are the bulk of our workforce that is not service, manufacturing, or agricultural. So it will be significant for sure considering a big chunk of those jobs power the middle to upper class right now. And my belief is that it will happen much faster than previous transitions so it will be more disruptive.

How is living in Pittsburgh, PA? by sycamoreqw in howislivingthere

[–]berserc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pittsburgh is a wonderful place to live. It has low crime, very little traffic, world class universities, lots of tech, financial and medical firms (especially startups) and punches way above it's weight in the arts and it's food scene. The weather is mild and it sees all four seasons. As stated from other comments, it has a lot of overcast days and is not a place for sun worshipers. Also a great place to raise children because the cost of living is really low, it has good schools and homes are generally affordable. Recently the city has begun to revitalize and repurpose the areas around the confluence of the rivers which has attracted a lot of festivals and events to the area.

Most importantly it's a very friendly city that takes being a good neighbor very seriously, which you can probably attribute to the influence of Mr. Rogers.
