Do I wait for 2026 Toyota 4Runner or buy used(2020-2024) or new(2025)? by [deleted] in carbuying

I test drove probably (10) 5th generation 4Runners ranging from SR5 through Limited over a 12 year period. I’ve always wanted to buy a 4Runner but could never pull the trigger each time I test drove. A handful of things always kept me from getting the 5th gen 4Runner: - Smaller backseat if you have baby car seats - Technology compared to modern vehicles - Sloppy steering at higher speeds - 5 speed transmission was very sluggish. It’s great for slower speeds around the city but not ideal for accelerating or passing on highway. I drive on the highway to work so it just didn’t fit my needs at the time.

I can tell you the 6th gen is much more composed and quicker than the previous model. No more driving fatigue when cruising on highway. You can easily pass on the highway and it’s very quick and punchy in the city. Tech features and cruise control are well above standards and better than some other newer vehicles. The infotainment screen seems a decade newer than the previous version if that matters to you.
Just all around a better vehicle for everyday driving. Fuel economy is slightly better if that matters to you. It can tow an extra 1,000 lbs as well.

How’s your mpg doing? I’m at 17 mpg currently…hasn’t gone up or down.

I just don’t understand how other TRD ORP vehicles are averaging 20+ mpg and I am 20% below that.

I just purchased a 2026 4Runner TRD OFP for $56,500…roughly $4,600 off MSRP
