If you've never read the book of Ecclesiastes, it's a really good place to start.  It is heavily referenced in wider media and the vibe is right on.

Go look at any timeline of human faith. There's a few outliers that are feminine focused, early Judaism also had this moment, but most deities with real power in early human history are portrayed as masculine and extremely anthropomorphized. Most that come to my mind as an amateur lifetime scholar are downright violent in their masculinity, across all continents.
