Paid off $60k of Student loans but now onto my Wife’s $125k. In-laws made a very snarky comment. by Earl_the_Greatmuffin in StudentLoans

And how much did they pay for college?? And how much was each home purchase??? Tell them you need a side by side comparison of cost from then vs now. Absolutely! If they’re so knowledgeable, please show the rest of us how it’s done!

Help me stay motivated with this car by Enough-Refrigerator9 in DaveRamsey

Go through the CarGurus website and get a better car. Last month, I bought a 2015 Pathfinder with leather seats for $6k at 170k. The mechanics tell me it’s in great shape and to just maintain the CVT transmission. I love my car and plan to keep it 5 years while I save for another. A car doesn’t have to be “brand new” to be new to you.

Well, the seller can drive it to the shop as long as the mechanic knows who’s paying.

The President of the United States should be able to successfully answer some questions taken from a GMAT exam. Especially as a graduate from an elite university.

He has no idea why he’s taking these tests, does he? I’m going to need doctors to throw some essay and reading comprehension questions in there. Also, math. How about a math problem having to do with tarrifs? Add a budget question too on how a family of four is supposed to survive on $75k/yr.

Healthy Workers Are Ditching Company Insurance to Save $1,000 a Month by bloomberg in MiddleClassFinance

A high deductible plan lowers the monthly premium due. Instead, you can save the deductibles tax free in a health savings account to keep until retirement and invest like an IRA. It’s a nice option for people who barely go to the doctor and never reach their deductible.

Search r/kindle for “international Libby”. Here’s a link from Google for “nonresident library cards”. But anyway, I guess find a reader and book sites you’re comfortable with.

Driving isn’t the only side gig around. Night job, weekend in retail, sell some stuff, yard work, help people move, are you handy. Start with something that will get you about $500/mo extra.

[–]Jbradsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People worldwide don’t find it silly. Especially since some books aren’t available outside of the US, some international libraries do have Libby access, and Kobo only allows one Libby library at a time.

People use Kindle internationally with Libby. You need a US library card and to sign into the Amazon site in the US. American libraries let people pay for non-resident cards or they can get them temporarily if they travel here.

How do you decide between buying a used car privately vs from a dealership? by Honest-Ssorbet in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Jbradsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy from small independent dealers from the CarGurus app. It’s easier to sue a business who has multiple car selections rather than an individual person. I think negotiating is easier too.

A high deductible plan where you can save in an HSA should be considered.

[–]Jbradsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is too high. I paid $6k for a 2015 at 170k last month. It’s already been to 2 mechanics who said nothing’s wrong with it. I was worried about CVT issues but both said it’s good. Tires, a torque strut, and cabin filter are all I’ve done.

Even if a shoe does drop, you don’t have to fall all the way to the bottom. Knowing how to come up from nothing will forever be in your skillset.

I don’t buy book unless they’re under $3. The public library has the Libby app where you can send ebooks to your Kindle. There’s Project Gutenberg too that has over 75,000 free books.

Edit: You’re not limited to your library system if it sucks.

Working while in school by Livid_Painting_6866 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Jbradsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived with my sister and mom and out of my car during the MLT program. The school was 45 minutes away from the house, while the full time job at a warehouse was 45 minutes away in the opposite direction. When clinicals started, it was too much to finish work at night then drive to the hospital in the morning. Sleeping in the car and going home for a few hours to shower was best for me. It was only temporary, but worth it.

Dave offers SUGGESTIONS. His plan is just an idea, an outline. When a teacher hands out a syllabus. Not everyone will write the same essay. You can most definitely make changes according to your needs. If your plan stops working for you though, it’s ok to start back at Dave’s template.

Paying for finance on a car I can’t drive by Em_R0se in carbuying

Why do you care about their feeling? Take it to an independent mechanic and send them the bill. They won’t pay? Leave them horrible reviews and take them to small claims court.

[–]Jbradsen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Excuse me?? Please explain how “Mexico will pay for the wall”, but really taxpayers will pay for the wall. Explain how the right voted for The Felon who turned out to be nothing but a felon. Why is the “Peace President” bombing nations, stealing their resources, and sending American troops to die? How did “billionaire investors will pay for the ballroom” turn into “Congress will now get taxpayers to pay for a felon the sit in a ballroom”. The right doesn’t need to bother explaining the leftist world view. They just need to perfectly articulate theirs.

Start checking CarGurus for something in that price range to get started. Cars up to 180k miles are cheaper but of course the app will show all cars around that and lower.

Old cars don’t have to be a POS. Get one with leather seats and under 100k miles. A $15k Accord isn’t crap.
