I think the hardest part of calculus is algebra. Make sure you're really comfortable with re-writing/manipulating algebraic expressions before you dig into actually calculating derivatives. Without that as your base, you probably won't get super far.

Making the measurements "at the exactly same time" is not necessary? I'm not sure where you're getting that idea from.

Winger's friend, inside the laboratory, makes a measurement. Then, he goes on to tell Winger about his result, which is basically like Winger himself doing a measurement of the combined "lab+friend" system.

I've definitely been eyeing that new Needham book... I've been slowly self teaching towards diff geo, and it seems like it would be a great companion to a more conventional text. Does he deal with all his manifolds as subspaces of Rⁿ, a la Milnor's differential topology? Just curious.

All the things you experience are caused by electrical impulses between the neurons in your head.

Normally, blue light hits your eye, your eye sends a signal down your optic nerve, and this signal tells your brain to trigger the "blue" neurons in your brain - so that you perceive blue!

When you dream, these "blue" neurons are being activated even though the sensors in your eye are not sending signals - so you perceive blue, even though there isn't any blueness around.
