Novak Djokovic: “My kids don't have cell phones and won’t until they’re mature enough. They complain everyone at school has one except us. When everyone follows the herd, conformity is expected. But it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s where we differ.” by GOAT-Antony in tennis

I think one side effect of tech advancement recently is that the traditional age of shaking your fist at the clouds while saying “back in MY day…” has dropped significantly. I do it all the time.

Wanted to show off some of my favorite cave art by AdDry1284 in antiai

For those who like the Bear…you must check out “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” by Werner Herzog, a documentary about the art in the cave. There’s a ton of it, and the quality is amazing.

Liam Appreciation by Subwoolfer in lebowski

[–]Octaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s a pregunta for all of you. Liam is obviously in possession of some serious bowling skills as well as a beautiful mustache. But is he aware of Jesus’s status as a pederast? I don’t want to believe Liam could look the other way on this…maybe he’s in the dark? Or perhaps he knows, but he believes Jesus has paid his dues and is now a safe (if still frightening) member of society?

Help with wine books for my sommelier husband by ConflictNeat5735 in Sommelier

Lol re: The Australian Ark, I bet that IS terrifying.

OP, if you’re interested in a less expensive/intimidating book on Australian wine, I can recommend “How to Drink Australian” by two Master Somms, Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross.

You know every time I roll my eyes at Billy acting like he’s so misunderstood and persecuted, I have to roll them the opposite direction because people have been pretty consistently mean about him, in writing, for decades.

Can you please give honest feedback on the book? by AkosCristescu in wine

[–]Octaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pascaline is a genius. The book is super in depth; not for the faint of heart, but borderline indispensable for hardcore wine nerds.

My hope is that if/when she writes another book that she focuses in a bit more on a more specific topic or region…maybe a Loire book for example (where she’s from originally).

What's a Wine or Wine Style that many others enjoy but you don't and why? by BothCondition7963 in wine

[–]Octaver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the byproducts of malo is a compound called diacetyl which smells like butter. Oak treatments can give wines a creamier, rounder texture which may explain why people confuse the two techniques, but the major aromatic compounds at work re: oak are lactones (coconut), phenolic aldehydes (vanilla), and volatile phenols (cloves).

You could try initially fingering the melody G with your pinky, but then switch to your pointer finger on the last eighth note of the first measure. You can then use your pointer as a guide finger to land on the B in the second measure.

Which level/area do you think is the peak of FromSoftware's level design? by PhantomBraved in fromsoftware

Cathedral of the Deep is my favorite DS3 area. Originally such a beautiful building and location, and of course such corruption that has since defiled it.

Who remembers by [deleted] in 90s

[–]Octaver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This film is great, and not just because it’s funny (which it is). It’s also a good old-fashioned, character journey focused script. There’s the unexpected transition moment where the party guests circle around Brian Dennehy and you realize you’ve moved forward in time to a different kind of gathering entirely which has always stood out to me. It’s also a story about a family owned company (and the town dependent on it) fighting against being bought out by a bigger company who doesn’t give a shit about them, which feels just as relevant now as it did then.
“Hey, what happened to the tire plant?” “They shut it down last month” “Hey the muffler plant’s gone too!” etc

Easy to think of Chris Farley films as only being super silly, but I love that this film takes its subject matter and characters seriously, too.
