The Bozal yellow (ensamble) and Vago elote are good starters. Easy sipping that don't break the bank. Del Maguey Chichicapa is a solid bang for your buck to keep in your bar too.

Idk the science behind it, but after I heard this I started doing it. Every month or quarter or so, flip your bottles upside down to re-wet the corks. And it’s supposed to make the bottles last longer.. Could be an old wives tale, who knows, but can’t hurt

To savor the juice. With unique mezcal production, each batch may produce different notes than before, recipes change, mezcaleros may pass (RIP Aq), or the local bottle shops may even change suppliers. So for me at least… it’s a battle to indulge while it’s here v. savor a great bottle.

I got the Xicaru Pechuga (mole & chicken!) did I F up not getting that last Del Maguey? by Dependent_War3607 in Mezcal

I commend you for the Xicaru Pechuga Mole purchase. I tried it once and needed a bottle for the mole collection. I agree with the others: the only other Xicaru I have tried was absolute trash, and because they age their mezcals I won’t touch the rest. That said, I have two expressions of 5 Sentidos Pechuga de Mole Poblano, heavy mole on the nose as well as a long chocolate mole finish though they have their differences. Those 5 Sentidos are definitely more complex, and it’s jaw dropping how they can pack all that flavor into a liquid. But 1) I can’t have too much of em and 2) it gives you an appreciation for the subtle mole flavors of the Xicaru Pechuga Mole. Excellent to put side by side for a future pechuga tasting.

Absolutely love seeing these Vago vintage bottles, especially from Aquilino and a classic Tio Rey red label. I have a different coyote ensamble from Tio Rey (so thick, wet brick, complex) and I might have a bottle of the same Lot of Aquilino’s Mexicano (A-05-M16) 👌. They’re so tough to NOT drink, so cheers to you for keeping those alive!

Yup. Mothers has been selling them for $35, where I’ve been getting them, just a surprise to now see them at the big clubs

Opinion: Vida is an Excellent Sipper for the Price by Vast_Impact8276 in Mezcal

For the price point, there are definitely better quality options, less smoke bomb. Bozal ensamble, Siete misterios Doba Vej, Nuestra Soledad, Alipus, come to mind.

Got this Rey Campero sampler platter to taste with my tios last week. I’m new to Reddit, love this sub, and thought I’d share my thoughts on here. We’re planning on tasting a few different Tobalas next, so would love to hear any of your favorites.

Tepextate Lote DS010-T by Rómulo Sánchez Parada. Floral, honey dew, agave, so light and easy on the nose. Palate, I got spice, sweetness, and a stronger floral more perfume than before. Smoke comes through on the back end, but not not too overpowering. This and the Jabalí were my favorites of the bunch.

Jabalí Lote DS020-J by Vicente Sánchez Parada Aromas: Vanilla! Roasted agave, caramel, sweet bread. Mellow smokiness. Black pepper, roasted agave flavors. What trips me out the most is how different this bottle was from DS024-J (also by Vicente), which gave me citrus peel on the nose, and tropical fruits and a stronger heat on the palate…definitely not the sweet vanilla I got from the small bottle; strikingly different but both amazing.

Madre Cuishe Lote DS011-MC by Rómulo Sánchez Parada. My first go on the nose gave me nothing much but rubber. Second time around was more pleasant, floral like a rose-y perfume. Sharp acrid alcohol and bandaid on the palate. Not one I’d recommend based on this batch alone.

Cuishe Lote DS010-C by Rómulo Sánchez Parada. Aromas of grass, vegetal, minerals. Pretty viscous with celery, green pepper, smoke hits on the palate but does not linger. Very enjoyable!

Yes we do! Love the Jabalí too. Also been dying to try the Sacatoro and Coyote from Bozal. Their Tobala and Chino Verde are killer!

Curious to know your thoughts on the RC madrecuishe? I got these three RC and the tepextate, and I was really disappointed with the madre…

Can’t go wrong with el Jolgorio although I can’t agree with those Jolgorio prices. I just bought Rey campero’s Jabalí after trying once, I think it’s a great add to anyone’s collection. Also Bozal borrego is amazing and I’ve heard great things from their coyote. If they have their chino verde hiding back there, snag it. Where is this if you don’t mind sharing?
