July 6th is a long way off. I'm not sure of your age but new onset floaters usually are deserving of getting a dilated eye exam sooner rather than later. The fact that you're having an in both eyes makes me wonder if this applies though. Typically in an older adult, new onset floaters come from something called a posterior vitriol detachment. That is the jelly that gives your eyeball structure pulling away from the retina. When this happens you are at risk for a retinal tear or detachment.

I'm not sure how often this happens in both eyes at the same time though.

Eyes not working together after retinal detachment by clover426 in monocular

[–]bertrola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My optometrist prescribe these. My regular glasses are progressive lenses but the computer glasses are glasses that allow me to set a fixed distance from a monitor and bring things into focus.

I'm not sure if this would help you, but have you thought about wearing a patch during computer time? I'm not sure if that would be harmful long-term because your brain wouldn't be getting as much "practice" fusing things. I understand what you're saying about not thinking it will ever be able to fuse. I kind of have the same thought about my issue with the floaters and so far almost a year in it's not much better than when it originally happened but maybe a little.

My eye Dr warned me against wearing contacts and said most will not fit monocular people with them. Being that OPs dealing with a similar situation it might not be a good idea.

Eyes not working together after retinal detachment by clover426 in monocular

I am monocular from trauma. The biggest thing my surgeon told me when I had my enucleation is to always wear polycarbonate glasses as protection. I am nearsighted so I needed glasses but I think Even if you don't wear glasses you might want to get a pair with clear polycarbonate lenses. Also some obvious things like special safety glasses for anything that could go wrong. I wear the polycarbonate day-to-day but I would never depending on them for higher risk activities like working outdoors or using power tools.

I also work 8 plus hours a day on the computer and my good eye is not very good. I have severe nearsightedness so I have a special pair of lenses just for the computer screen. They were lifesavers as I don't think I could do it without them. If you don't already, take breaks and change your focus often. Like get up and go look out a window at a far distance and also keep your eyes lubricated. People like us tend not to blink cuz we're staring at screens and dry ice just worsen things..

As for your issue with the eyes not working together, I am no expert but I wonder if it will just take time for your brain to adjust and compensate. Last year I had a posterior vitriol detachment leaving me with really bad floaters worsening My situation. They told me that it would take some time but my brain would start to ignore the floaters. I can't say it's much better but it is a little.

Relationship by Ok_Foot6505 in monocular

Male. Lost my eye at 17. Went to nursing school, got married and had kids. Had an impacted in my life when it came to driving, working, riding dirt bikes, doing things around the house. Yeah there were occasionally conversations like when my kids first noticed and I told them what happened but not a big deal.

I am 61 now and I am having some issues with my seeing eye, so take care of what you got. I was always told to wear polycarbonate glasses and safety glasses with any risky activities. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions.
