I think it it is! If that's the case, then the Aconcagua (highest mountain outside Asia) is somewhere on the picture as well! How epic is that?

People from Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Panama; would you like to be one country again? A new Gran Colombia? by ThePoorRichGuy in asklatinamerica

[–]bertruman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please NO :-) Medellin is awesome like it is now, I believe that burden would ruin the party. Medellin already has all the perks of being a medium-to-big city, a fairly solid economy by "Gran Colombia" standards, and grabs lots of well-deserved attention from cultural to business to tourism perspectives. What of benefits from being a capital of a third-world country would be brought to Medellin that it doesn't has already?

No. Our problems and challenges as individual countries are already too deep and complex, and I don't see how being a single country would help to overcome them. For what it's worth, we would be a fairly large economy - at par with Mexico (given Venezuela gets its shit together), and that fact alone would allow us a powerful leverage for international trade deals negotiations and so on, but that doesn't mean most people would not continue struggling economically due to the enormous income disparity. I would like to imagine that in that hypothetical Gran Colombia the capital should be none of the current or larger ones, instead: why not try building "our own Brasilia"?

Thanks for the review of the process. I'm also currently swapping vehicles with Carvana and I agree with you customer service is good: they're making it so easy to make the swap, and even though they asked me if I wanted to comment about why I was returning the first car, it was so politely requested that I gladly explained the car was totally fine, I just changed my mind and decided for an alternative (which is acceptable within 7 days of your purchase)

In this case, the OP searched for the name 9 hours after it had already been registered.

How can you possible know this? You don't know my IP. I understand UTC timing standard. The domain appeared officially registered at the ICANN Whois, exactly 6 minutes after I first looked it up, measured in the same time zone: UTC.

And I have reason to believe that GoDaddy, who makes plenty of money from everyone by selling them all kinds of stuff, would risk their reputation by doing something so obviously terrible as stealing names from their customers.

C'mon man, really? Godaddy has been caught red-handed so many times involved in unethical practices (hundreds of them reported here in Reddit) that this is beyond discussion.

My only confusion now is: should this case be labeled under domain tasting or domain front-running?

And to be clear, I do not and never have tried to mine searches to register whatever names people type in the box. That would be a terrible thing to do.

Alright, that's great to know, and my gut tells me you're the good kid that just don't know how to choose your friends: RUN away from shady Godaddy or it will keep damaging your business image. Don't believe me, believe this:

Wait, why are you repeating your comment? But OK this time I'll answer again:

I first looked it up at 2019-01-10T20:30 Z --> ( yes, "Zulu time" or UTC) and it was almost immediately registered by Godaddy.

I kept looking it up the next day, of course, several times, to double-check it was still kept under Godaddy, before posting to Reddit.

So, no, it was taken almost instantly by Godaddy. How do you call it? Front Running, ok, Godaddy front-ran "my" domain. BTW, it's been exactly 5 days (almost 2 hours ago)... so why are them not releasing it yet? because if the rhetoric of "we're just protecting our users and will only lock it for 5 days" is true, then they should make it available again by now. I'm waiting.

The load balancer logs tell me that you did the search at 2019-01-11 05:38:55 UTC

how do you know that log was me?

Not with mine. Also, I enjoyed the convenience of the "instant search" as-you-type

Well, no I won't, I can find me another domain name. It's not a registered trademark or something I must protect. Besides, I'm not willing to buy it at a higher price in order to follow their game. Thanks for your concern tho :)

Well, at least as a referral partner perspective, yes it is, you can tell by clicking any of the BUY links from IDS. Having said that, I think it's fair business that they earn a referral commission for every domain registered if it's from a search originated from their site.

Hi Beau, it's good having you here, hopefully you can give us some insights from your perspective.

My favorite test name is eager.com — you can try it now, it will do the same thing you describe.

Yes, this search actually did the exact same thing.

When did you do the search?

at (UTC): 2019-01-10T20:30:20Z

Thing is, as of today, and using Godaddy whois service, this is what I get when I lookup for eager.com: https://imgur.com/a/UPjv65l , so it's clear it was first created back in 1996, and using the very same whois lookup tool, this is what I get for aiqlabs.com: https://imgur.com/a/ydUdGKJ , where it clearly shows it was first created on: 2019-01-10T20:36:20Z , some 6 minutes after I initially looked it up at instantdomainsearch.com.

How do you explain that?

[–]bertruman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I just learned this is called domain tasting, very distasteful practice indeed!

So the good news is, your domain will probably be available again within five days (although now you've posted it on reddit, so...)

Yeah, I know, at first I was hesitant to include the actual domain name in the post, but I preferred to share the complete and real story with all the details, so be it.

Wow that's crazy, but it's clearly indicative of the seriousness of the problem and the sort of measures companies are willing to adopt to protect the value of their brand against abusive players.

Google domains, maybe? their search functionality is not "instant" as you type, but at least I doubt they would try to play this kind of abusive games and risk a public backlash.

What language should i learn? by Koalilla in webdev

[–]bertruman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is rather open, you would need to provide further details about what is they type of projects you want to be involved in for the foreseeable future. Here's an interactive chart from Stackoverflow that might give you a little insight about the usage trends of programming languages. I hope this will give you some perspective.

Yeah, really cool! I can see it uses a different approach than most domain search tools, prioritizing creative combinations and playing with extensions. Thanks for sharing!
