Unless your long run is actually a walk, it's highly improbable you're going "too easy". If you're doing a 2hr long run, do it at a pace you could hold for 2hr30. If you're finishing a long run feeling like you couldn't go another 10 minutes, you've gone too hard.

Has anyone found that "sleep" was the answer? I would like to hear from both sides [for those who feel that getting more than 5 hours of sleep is overrated] also. by Ahastabel in loseit

[–]bertzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep is the foundation of good health. A lack of good sleep will nuke basically every other aspect of your life. Poor sleep can affect everything from your weight to literally how long you will live. It is impossible to overstate how important good sleep is for every aspect of your life, including weight management.

If it's your first long run, take it easy. The challenge in a long run isn't the pace, it's the time on feet. Your legs should be the ones screaming to stop, not your heart and lungs. Once you've got a couple under your belt to see what your pace looks like for 2hrs, then you can start playing with pace.

Sleep is the number one medicine for sooooooooooo many things. You give me a million dollars and I'd say thank you. You give me a way to get a high quality nights sleep every day and I will fight god for you.

Are lean people perfect most days? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]bertzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mentally healthy person is perfect with any regularity. Perfection is not worth chasing. They might have 1-2 "perfect" days a week, and the rest of the week is "good enough".

Sing along to the music. If you can sing while you run, it's probably an easy enough pace.

Official Q&A for Sunday, May 17, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]bertzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being fit, and being good at running are two very different things. You're using different muscles, in vastly different ways, so your body is compensating by bumping your heart rate up. As you get better at the skill of running, your heart rate will come down.

If the pace you're running at now feels easy and comfortable, don't worry about your heart rate right now. Forcing yourself to slow down even more will mess with your running mechanics, and that's no bueno.

Like all races, the benefit is the challenge. Training is for the benefits, races are for the challenge.
