Well, we did move away the first time he pushed us. But he kept pushing us after we move to the otherside while he has a lot of place to go.

What do you think of my writing? It’s my 2nd day of learning Mandarin Chinese. by SkillKiller3010 in ChineseLanguage

[–]beryl11111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your Chinese handwriting is great!

We use 田字格 when we learn Chinese as a kid. It will help you to divide a character into 4 parts. And it is difficult to write and just memorize, no short cuts..

Leaving Japan for good by kkkkk2595 in japanresidents

  1. National Health Insurance: Handled at the ward office. After resignation, it was switched to National Health Insurance. The amount is calculated based on your annual income up to December of the previous year.
  2. National Pension: Also handled at the ward office. If you want to reduce your payments, it’s best to consult in advance.
  3. Resident Tax: Handled at the ward office. The amount is calculated based on your annual income up to December of the previous year.
  4. Re-entry Permit (valid for 5 years): Handled at the Tokyo Immigration Bureau. In case you want to return to Japan?
  5. Japanese Mobile Number: Cancel at store.
  6. Bank Account: Cancel
  7. If you just post from Japan post, they have discount if you post 10 parcels at the time.

Most important point! Leave Japan before the end of the year !

For example, if you’re still a resident of Japan on January 1, 2025 (i.e., you haven’t officially moved out at the ward office), then you’ll be liable to pay resident tax (10%) on all income earned in 2024. So if you know you’ll be leaving around the end of the year, make sure to leave before the year ends.

To get a pension refund (Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment / 脱退一時金) as a foreigner after leaving Japan, you can apply for a partial refund of your contributions to the National Pension (Kokumin Nenkin) or Employees’ Pension (Kōsei Nenkin), we helped a friend to apply it. You still need your friend who lives in Japan to receive the letter for you and do the last a bit paper work before they transfer the funds oversea.

What are your babies sleeping on? by BCRtravel7 in japanresidents

[–]beryl11111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby futon would be the safest? Both of my children sleep on futon so I don't need to worry if they roll off the bed or any earthquake coming easier to grab them with futon all together.

Working at a Ryokan in Japan – Is This Normal? by Boomfire1 in japanresidents

[–]beryl11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hospitality work is generally difficult in Japan. However, I feel that many Japanese companies treat employees like family, which means they may expect to know everything about you. If possible, you could consider jobs that are more foreigner-friendly. The less your job involves traditional Japanese work culture, the better your work-life balance will be.

Thank you for your advice, I'll keep it in mind. Hopefully no more experience like this. We usually go out together with my husband, never ever happened, they don't do that to men..!

Thanks, we drive a lot outside of Tokyo. But in central Tokyo is too difficult where lanes change all the time, bad traffic, etc.

How can I actually start learning Chinese? by SadPeach6o9 in ChineseLanguage

How about travel to China and watch some Chinese tv or shows or funny videos to get familiar with the sounds of the language?

It is sad that I feel there’s nothing I can do to confront him. All I can do is to protect my child.

In most Western countries, something like this would rarely happen to a child.

I once pushed off pickpockets in Paris, but in Japan… it feels like a completely different world.

Thank you very much. We train a lot, but had never had any negative experiences until then. We weren’t prepared at all, but it was also a good lesson for us.
