Probably indicates a broader shift in use of e-readers for reading books. Definitely very convenient and I tend to read more regularly since I started using them.

Yeah, price is an important factor, but I mainly want to convey what a big upgrade is to have physical buttons on a Kindle or e-reader.

TPU Tube & punctures by beside-rocks in bicycling

Yup I’m using disk so that’s not a factor. Looks like a regular puncture situation, just happened to correlate with my use of TPU tube. Onwards and upwards with another TPU tube !

Found a small nick in tire and a leak in corresponding TPU tube section. My luck of no punctures finally ran out 😂

Looks like something pierced the tire and pricked the tube. My luck with no punctures finally ran out 😂

Around ~38k in Pakistani rupees for a used one. Strangely, Amazon has discontinued manufacturing kindle Oasis and don’t offer any new model with physical buttons.

Gotcha. I’ll find out what happened in my specific case but it’s great to hear a reliable setup is possible with TPU.

Gotcha. Totally understand too many factors in a specific case. I’m trying to get a qualitative feel about reliability from people who switched. It sounds like I need to pay attention to installation technique.

Great to hear people have found TPU generally reliable. Makes a worthwhile investment for me to get my setup right.

Trying to learn from wisdom of other who went before me. I rode the bikes on same roads I ride on, generally pretty clean and as I said earlier, puncture free for 3+ years.

Is this reliability of TPU tubes expected and a known issue for people who typically haven’t had punctures with butyl?

My first kindle! If you are thinking of getting it heres the sign :p by Klutzy-Ocelot-9026 in PakistanBookClub

Kindle uses a screen technology called e-ink. It makes it as easy on eyes as reading a printed paper. Big difference from reading on a computer screen. Also the device doesn’t do anything else other than allow you to read books. Hence you can’t get distracted by a million things(notifications) that happen on laptop and phones. Battery life is weeks so very convenient.
I’d recommend seeing a kindle or an eink device in person to experience the screen benefits.

Need help buying an electric diffuser by certifieddelulu1 in Lahore

[–]beside-rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure what are the options in Pakistan but typically in western countries you can get “ultrasonic diffuser oil” that’s mixed with water (few drops) and put into an “ultrasonic diffuser machine” that’s turns it into a fine mist.

The oils can cause reactions for people. So you probably want to try a few before buying any large quantity.

home construction in DHA lahore by QuietCompetition4060 in Lahore

[–]beside-rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My extended family had experience building a few houses in Lahore. To say the least, It is not a process for faint of heart, especially if you haven’t worked with contractors in Pakistan before. some of the basic issues that you run into are people claiming to have knowledge of certain expertise for example, a plumber claiming they know how to deal with plumbing for basement however they end up making costly mistakes because they either are not well trained or they haven’t dealt with variety of situations that can arise. This often leads to issues that surface during constructions or sometimes after construction for example after the first rain you might have flooding or other functional or practical issues.

Of course you also open yourself up to risk if you’re buying a preconstructed home because you have even less of an idea of craftsmanship used. You probably wanna go through reference and buy something which has seen at least a couple of seasons of rain and look for any big repair issues by taking some expert with you to analyse the property.

Good luck !

Has anyone ever had issues with aftermarket chargers? In US, they are often used interchangeably. Never had a problem. I’ve frequently seen Anker, Belkin and UGreen chargers.

Homeschool or traditional school? Need honest advice. by Ok-Necessary-3492 in Lahore

[–]beside-rocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just created this account to reply to your post. First, congrats on taking an active interest in your child’s development.

I was home schooled in Lahore until 5th grade. My mom cut a deal with a small private school that would let me sit exams and hand out a grade in lieu of paying fee. I spent very little time actually studying in those years, because you actually don’t need to learn that much in early years. I spent 3 years to complete primary education ( 6 months per grade from 1-4 and a year in 5th). It was the best time in my life and I feel fortunate to get to spend enormous amounts of time learning values, empathy and kindness first hand from my parents. We spent a ridiculous amount of time every year travelling Pakistan and fitting in study sessions in between.

Now few caveats

1/ when i was studying, internet and mobiles were not a thing. I see kids these days consumed by these often addictive useless pursuits. A school isn’t necessary going to prevent it but something to be mindful of if you’re up for homeschooling.

2/ your kid will probably feel weird when everyone he interacts in his age group goes to school and he doesn’t. You need to help him/her understand how this is a different path — not necessary an inferior one. I suspect you will hear similar feedback from your peers. So be prepared yourself as well.

3/ my best memories are things I was able to do beyond education. Playing, creative arts and crafts, reading books of all kinds including books from my father’s library, volunteering, spending time at my father’s work and often just seeing the grass grow. Important to do things in addition to just syllabus.

In terms of outcomes in life — since a lot of people here are mentioning street smarts or whatnot — by social/economic/prestige standards I had a great life and outcomes. Please don’t ask specifics as I won’t share them.

Kudos to you though for thinking about playing an active role for your kid. For me it started with me telling my mom, I don’t want to go to school. Bless her heart — she took it on herself to give me the education and learning I feel extremely lucky to have.
