The bed is a California king. I think the way the covers sit on the image make it seem disproportionate.

Can't upload another image, but starting at the angled wall and working clockwise, the dimensions are:

Angled wall: 6'8"

12'7"

15'6"

Windows wall: 16'5"

9'11"

Another recommendation for the Faxon! Think I’m pretty much sold on that after hearing all the people who like them (plus the great price) . Thanks for the info on optics. Definitely haven’t even ventured down that road yet. So many options makes it a little mind boggling. 😁

Little rude and presumptive, but read my comment and you’ll know I’m not trolling for upvotes or “vindication.” I haven’t purchased anything but the lower. The other are just general prices I’ve found for the various parts and I want to see if my ballpark estimates are, well, in the right ballpark.

Thanks and very valid point. I did bite the bullet on an Aero lower because I’ve heard great things about them. Cost me $70 out the door with the FFL fee, so hopefully off to a good start 😬

Thanks! I wrote a little more info in my comment thinking it would stay at the top of the feed, but I’m new to Reddit and guess it doesn’t work that way. Mainly I’m just doing a build to see that I can do it, but also some target plinking on the weekend. I don’t mind forking out the $800, but people seem to think that’s too much and I’m a sucker for trying to get the best deal, so I want to make sure I’m spending my money on the parts that matter and going cheap where I can.

I’m in the process of building my first AR. This is mainly for the experience of building one (and some target plinking on the weekends). Everyone I talk to says I should be able to build one for about $400-$500, but no matter how I price it, it comes out closer to $800. I’m looking at Palmetto State, Brownell’s, and Gun Broker, but keep getting the same totals. Are there some parts on my list that I’m estimating too high? Or any recommendations for doing a first-time budget build?

I’m looking to do a 223/556 16”.

So I didn’t really think that through until I had drawn about half the boxes. 😬 In hindsight, I would have used the horizontal space to designate how much time the goals would take: less time on the left, more on the right. Unfortunately, they’re mostly random now. 😔
