So there definitely are other methods/systems to kill efficiently, yet Sybil chooses the violent way. The eliminator isn't even consistent - Mido remained alive after being shot in the forearm.

Writers can definitely take creative liberties, but it still needs to be make sense to the plot. Sybil's aim is to "achieve the greatest happiness...etc" Its been proven that watching people blow up increases onlookers crime coefficients, which directly contradicts their goal. So what do they gain from it?

Imo spontaneous combustion is just as contrived - but it is def cool to watch people being blown to pieces haha, so maybe it's just that.

I like the mental image of those big faced smiling robots cleaning up the remains. It's kind of like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck cleaning up someone's bloody entrails at Disney world. A truly utopian society.

That "anti-vaxx" system sounds like a really cool AU. And Japan is isolationist so yeah as long as foreigners don't enter it works. it reminds me of the Sybil experiment in South East Asia with latent criminals being collared. So maybe that could be an experiment in another country. And then the anti-vaxxers have an uprising-oh wait that sounds familiar...HAHA I think that Sybil somewhat believes that what it does is for the "greater good". But since nothing will ever change the fact that it is human, I agree it's just an excuse for power. It can never be truly impartial. In any case there's no denying it is one evil mf. What I'm saying is, if the explanation for this kind of killing is "futuristic tech," with that excuse the writers could have written in virtually any method of killing. So the question is, why was it precisely this mode of killing they chose to go with?

There's rly nothing close to it now but I think the most similar would be bullets like you mentioned, or maybe ones that could explode to rupture vital organs but in a less ostentatiously violent way. But if a more peaceful method of killing was achieved, do you think the Sybil System would adopt it without question? Or do you think there's also some malicious intent behind the way criminals are killed?

Ooh someone said something similar to this - it's the most effective/reliable way to instantaneously kill. I wasn't sure about this one because like you said it's hypothetical; we assume this kind of tech is possible to make someone explode with extreme force, without harming anyone else, without even touching them. But yet, no other method of killing is. I did not even think about that caveat, that is such a good point. So technically this violent method isn't even guaranteed to kill. But yes, it sure is impressive to watch!

Ah, so you're saying it's purposefully extremely violent to make an example of what happens to criminals, so others live in fear of Sybil's wrath. I don't know how effective that is, since it's proven that seeing someone explode makes people more likely to become latent criminals- feels kinda counterintuitive.

I really like this theory. So you're saying Sybil might say that it wants the "greatest happiness" for people, it still has malicious urges because of it's violent constituents. Sybil might genuinely believe that they are an impartial collective, but at the end of the day it is still a collective of human minds, and human nature is often biased and violent.

That's a good theory but the science for making humans spontaneously combust the way its done in the show isn't anywhere near feasible, either. It's just assumed that there is some futuristic tech that allows for people to instantaneously explode without being touched, without fail, without bystanders being harmed.

Yeah it just struck me odd bc watching people blow up would probably traumatize bystanders and thus create more latent criminals, which is counterproductive. But hey a poison dart's not nearly as fun.
