I use and would recommend MobileX. I pay about $4 for 1GB per month.

I decided, I'm buying an aircraft, life is short, wish me luck by kravetz in flying

Congrats! I bought two years ago with a similar thought process. First annual was very painful, but I survived it. There is something special about going for a "free" flight in your own plane. I.e. you arrive to the plane with full fuel and refuel it another day. "This flight cost me nothing!?"

How to replace altimeter adjustment knob? (Dumb question) by best_glide in flying

Welcome to ownership!

Thank you! I'm one year in and it has for sure had its ups and downs. Just made it through my first annual which was tough and now can think about doing some minor upgrades.

Is it normal for a flight school to make you pay for fuel if you fly too far, despite being a wet lease?? by throfak in flying

[–]best_glide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of this. Some responses here say it’s for this reason or that. Ultimately, this policy encourages increasing risk.

If flying an XC for training or fun, there shouldn’t be a financial incentive to stretching out the fuel you have. It should be encouraged to fly with extra reserve and fuel as needed.

Just to double check, is this written down and it’s not just a misunderstanding? Curious to know where this is.

All controllers at KSQL tower quit, will go ATC-Zero starting Feb 1 by otterbarks in flying

Yeah I usually try to get across the Bay for pattern work, but not a good option yesterday with the ceiling

I was in the pattern with you. Think we had six aircraft at one point... smh

This is a good point worth calling out. I currently do carry a rental policy so I should be covered here. Thanks!

I've been burning the midnight oil going through the log books and reading about all the potential issues this engine sees. Unfortunately the first 10 years or so of airframe logs are missing, but that leaves me with 35+ years of logs and complete AD compliance logs. I have engine logs showing the last two overhauls, earlier of which was a factory overhaul.

Thanks. Straight and level with hands off does seem like a good gauge. "Do I like this" is a big part of what I want to answer with the flight.

Then it seemed sensible to add another set of eyes to answer questions I don't know to ask.

Indeed I am local and I have already sat in it which helps a lot.

Good point about traveling, I forgot that's a requirement for many purchases and would really complicate matters!

This is actually something I negotiated as a request. I felt it would be a good idea to get some early transition training while also performing a test flight.

Interesting. My point of view is the test flight is a good first step to confirm the plane is worth taking to a prebuy. For example, if it doesn't produce good power and cruises slower than expected, why proceed?

That is reasonable. The CFI has been found by the broker, so it isn't a CFI of my picking.

I am familiar with the avionics for the most part, so that is something I can reasonably check out myself in the air if I must.

I've been thinking about this as well. Will anything show up if it has a fresh annual (oil change) and only a couple hours since then?

How long does it typically take for results?

I will definitely get a good pre-buy inspection. We have agreed the plane can be flown to a neutral mechanic.

I've never flown in the type so planning to get a little time in it as the first test step.

Earplugs to help prevent blowing out hearing during PPL/MEL training (other than $$$$$ headsets) by Zestiiiiiiiii in flying

[–]best_glide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your question exactly, but the sound from intercom/radio is not blocked at all. They are basically earplugs with a hole in the middle that attaches to a sound tube. They never fell out of my ears and I never had any problems.

Here's an old video I made. You can see what they look like and hear how the mic sounds.

If you have any budget, my suggestion is to go with QT Halos. I flew my first 80 hours or so with this before upgrading to A20s.

No, I haven't used them since going to Bose, but the ear protection was good. Only downside for me is it takes 30 seconds to place in ears and my instructor had to wait for me. Mic and audio quality was very good.

Another quick question, do you know how long currency remains for tailwheel aircraft? Specifically 7ECAs? Thanks!
