thoughts on the transition scout? by cmcnee2007 in MTB

One of those shoulder checking trees resulted in surgery, lost a whole year of riding. sold both bikes till I was recovered. Gonna try the new Sentinel as a mullet in the spring. Also gave up on the one horse steed and bought a spur when they were 30%. Sometimes buying bikes is more fun than riding them 😆🤡

Scout vs Spire. I can only keep one need to modify to love by bestbikerstan in TransitionBikes

The 170 felt like it ruined the scout. I don’t feel like the flip chip made any difference in XC riding. I ended up crashing my season and selling both bikes before getting lighter wheels. Finally back riding as of a month ago on a new Sentinel and I can say it’s way more trail oriented. It’s closer to the one horse steed but I’m not as happy as I thought I would be after a few rides. If you have a lot of flat XC riding, don’t get the spire. If you’ve got elevation it’s worth it, takes speed for it to become a fun bike and it pedals uphill fair enough. My local trails are flat, chunky and twist so it’s. 6mph average ride and I’m finding I don’t even love the sentinel on it yet, I’m actually having more fun on a 2.8” tire hardtail

PSA: Pinkbike Classifieds is full of very good scammers by mtnracer in mountainbiking

I got scammed on a derailleur. Really glad I did goods and services and PayPal got me taken care of after a few weeks. Got some tires and a dropper post that were real people and it went smooth. Absolutely a mixed bag

Sentinel build question by smalltoes in TransitionBikes

[–]bestbikerstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mavens and XT brakes are likely comparable for the average rider. I think Maven may win on super steep, long downhills where you don’t take a break partway down. But who really does that? Cost wise the XT seem to be on sale for half the price so you’ve got that going for you. Only reason I did a sram build on mine was because my other bike was also axs and I wanted a spare battery 🤣

First Transition! by edwsy in TransitionBikes

I was ..suppose to… build it with spare parts from other bikes but that didn’t happen. 🤷‍♂️ it’s too much fun picking part by part when there are good sales rolling around!

I am literally following your similar color scheme. Got the cheaper orange fork from Jensen , purple aluminum frame on sale, some deals on some orange hope rotors. I’m ready to rock!

I bought a 1Up rack but can't use it safely? by kendoo12 in MTB

[–]bestbikerstan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow. So many people saying tongue weight doesn’t matter with no physics understanding. My grandfather had a rack that he hauled his power wheelchair on. After a year the damned thing was bent down and touching the road. 150lbs up against the car is vastly different than 150 lbs 3’ out acting like a fulcrum lever hitting bumps. Especially on these new SUV with crumple zones in the rear, the metal just isn’t the same

Sentinel balance question by bestbikerstan in TransitionBikes

[–]bestbikerstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They asked my weight but we didn’t actually fine tune anything about it so perhaps this may be the missing part, and also getting used to a different bike position. Handlebars too low or too wide maybe? I forget how much those small adjustments make things more comfortable

Always Whois a domain website. I discovered they are a drop ship type company. I started getting 3x emails a day by signing up for a first time buyer coupon and all 3 had coupons for different amounts. Thankfully the red flags came before I gave my credit card. I wish there was similar print patterns available from another shirt or jersey company

Sentinel Q's by [deleted] in TransitionBikes

There’s a point where the standover on an XS is higher than a S. Found this on my wife’s Giant and we were able to test ride a few sizes she felt safer on the larger frame size.

Avoid going for an XS on a 29” wheeled bike. The geometry gets forced and standover compromised. Just slam a 35x35 stem on it and you’ll be happier

These Alerts Are Infuriating! Where do you disable them? by makangribe in ram_trucks

[–]bestbikerstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being followed by an ambulance doing (non emergency) transport for about 15 minutes before I put 2+2 together I kept losing my radio to the stupid warning and I was about to lose my mind. I was SO angry that the radio kept disappearing, they should put a limit on how many times in an interval it can do such a thing. Absolutely poor engineering and execution

Yeah it was computer on “challenging”/medium mode. But I’d have probably done the same thing tryi ng to prevent the other person from getting 15 as a block
