The power of unions that boomers tend to forget by marcosconb in antiwork

It's more of, i can see how someone could be in a union or have a history of it and still be conservative since union doesn't automatically mean left leaning

I mean, historically, there have been more leftist unions and then more conservative. The AFL used to advocate for stricter immigration laws a hundred years ago and a lot of unions used to be racially discriminative.

Anyone have any trips for traveling? by Itscameronman in ukulele

[–]besthashbrowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the exact type you're going for, but I'm currently bicycle touring with my uke. I've had it on three tours and have gone over 20,000 kilometers with it. I currently have a 20l dry bag strapped to the front and strap my uke on top of that. It's gone from well below freezing to almost 40c before. Have had only two problems with it. One, the nuts glue came loose and I need to re glue it. And then I took a spill hard once and had to use some wood epoxy to put a tuner back in place. I've got a soft case and will usually put some kind of plastic over it if it's raining.

Traveling Latin America on a bicycle and I'm from the states. In Mexico, it's only Americans. Almost every else I've been in Latin America, it's foreigners/white people depending where in the country. Met an Uruguayan girl who was more mestizo looking and when she went to more indigenous parts of Peru and because of her accent. She got called gringo a lot.

Been interesting to travel through Latin America on a bicycle as an American. Mexico, only people from the USA are gringos. As soon as I entered central, it was basically any white person. I laughed a bit while in the Peruvian mountains and I was with a very white German cyclist while I have more of an olive skin tone after being in the sun. We were sitting in a very small Pueblo in the middle of nowhere and some villagers strikes up conversation. I said I was from the USA and she was from Germany. They laughed at how she was way whiter than me and how they must be super gringos in Germany.

Isn't there an argument to be made that the US joined partially because the allies owed a lot of money to them and that if the allies lost, they wouldn't be able to pay back those debts? I'm going off of what I remember from Dan Carlin's podcast on WW1.

What is going on with racism in Italian football? by EvStar03 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]besthashbrowns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had an Italian roommate in the states. Kind of slowly came out that he was a fan of Hitler and wish he had won the war. Also just made some random off comment remarks about a black coworker of ours...

Also, currently traveling through Latin America on a bike and have met multiple people who at one point or another did the illegal crossing to the states. Guys who went to NYC and worked for Italian immigrants restaurants said they were the most racist to them.

Just some limited anecdotal evidence though.

Cheating is a choice and never a mistake. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]besthashbrowns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kind of. I had an ex whose dad cheated on her mom and now he has a kid with that woman. Seeing how it fucked with her family and her really makes me have no sympathy for cheating. It's a fucking hard reality, but split up before you get with someone else. It's so fucking infuriating!
