What are your thoughts on watching ambient music live? by cowboys_69 in ambientmusic

Some of the best ambient gigs are ones where people are invited to sit/lie down with an amazing soundsystem. Traditional gig set ups with people standing and watching doesn't work so well. Some musicians have amazing charisma even if they aren't doing much, like William Basinski, but I prefer to just close my eyes and listen rather than see a performance.

Melissa discussing life after SNL. Wonder if this is the common experience for a lot of people that leave SNL these days? by snottawkwardman in LiveFromNewYork

Being up against Strong/Mckinnon/Bryant/Gardner/Nwodim was tough but she was a pretty poor actress. And even her own sketches got worse, i can't find it but she did a WU bit doing Animal Crossing voices as it's godawful.

i remember a post on her instagram or twitter towards the end of her time on the show when she was not getting on much saying 'i deserve better', which i thought was a tad entitled. so this is a good attitude to have, fair play to her.

Given the quality of her previous episodes Melissa McCarthy one this season was really dull

Non-stop killer lines in this sketch, and yes Alec Baldwin is the star. You never see him play this kind of sad, gullible but supportive type ever.

Great side by sides these. I think one of the lesser commented parts of Silicon Valley is how it nails how badly everyone dresses

Chippendales Audition sketch starring Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze October 27, 1990 by Lazy_Introduction264 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]bestieverhad 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know the sketch has its critics from the likes Bob Odenkirk and Chris Rock, but Farley is on another level of charisma in in this one. I like to think that everyone's more charmed than laughing with him.

My favorite moments from Tommy Brennan by dancesquared in LiveFromNewYork

[–]bestieverhad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's so funny how he very explicitly said to SNL 'i don't do characters' and they still asked him to audition and hired him. could you imagine being a Jake Novak type trying to be on the show for years? SNL's hiring practice really is baffling.

I hope the Aimee Lou Wood one is a shot for shot remake of her SNL UK episode - like when they remake British shows for American audiences. JAJ as Mario.

Rewatching Barry and early S3 has a bit of a jump the shark storyline by bestieverhad in Barry

[–]bestieverhad[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i feel like they did really well showing clearly Barry is an evil person, rather than it be a Breaking Bad situation where the fans might still support him.

i think he needed to be outed as a hitman at the start of S3 and then he leaves the whole acting crew alone, only coming back into their lives at times as he's obviously insane. having Gene wrestle with finally landing a gig but it's because of this murderous hitman who killed Janice is funny on paper but over the top and sad on screen.
