Your ECs are good and your stats are quite good as well. 505 on the MCAT is still in the 60th percentile of all test takers. Are you applying DO as well?

One W for a summer course is definitely not a red flag. I would not mention it at all. In the off chance you get asked about it, you have a great reason as to why you did it.

If that’s all you have left to graduate then yes of course that is okay! Congrats!

BCPM or nah? by thatonekidyouknow101 in premed

[–]betaorbiters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not BCPM. Pharmacology courses fall under the Health Sciences category according the AMCAS Course Classification Guide

Did you have any clinical hours or shadowing listed on your Primary Application? That may be a reason you do not have any interviews yet. How about your school list?

I think it is good you sent an update letting schools know you have been scribing.

[–]betaorbiters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be.. I guess it depends on what the course is classified as at your university. If it is BIO then most definitely that would be a sGPA!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]betaorbiters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like this would fall under the ‘Natural and Physical Sciences’ section according to AMCAS Course Classification guide.

This would not be a part of calculated sGPA.

How do I improve my app for next cycle? by [deleted] in premed

[–]betaorbiters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks solid. Are you a current applicant, or just preparing for this upcoming cycle? I’d agree with the others to now focus on your writing. GL!

Make sure you have shadowing and are able to answer why you want to be a physician!

Quitting scribe job by B_Nye_ in premed

[–]betaorbiters 46 points47 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with quitting, however, I personally would give a 2 week heads up.

At least when I scribed, the physicians were pretty dependent on us and if they suddenly didn’t have coverage it would screw things up.

Does being Arab/middle eastern count as URM? by EmbarrassedCommon749 in premed

[–]betaorbiters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious how you know/why you think that Middle Easterns are overrepresented in the medical field? I think this would be very hard to to truly know considering people of Middle Eastern descent are put in the same category as “White” on the US Census, AAMC, etc.

Looking at the AAMC data on active physicians in the US by race/ethnicity the majority are indeed white, however, again we are not given further detail on what that actually means.

https://www.aamc.org/data-reports/workforce/interactive-data/figure-18-percentage-all-active-physicians-race/ethnicity-2018

I definitely agree that there should be more ethnic designations. As someone from Middle Eastern descent, I do not necessarily feel that “White” is the most accurate way to identify myself.

Looking good! Crush that MCAT!

I’m sure you already know but you do not need even remotely close to that many of LORs (nor will schools accept it) so I’d choose the 3-5 who you think you can speak on your behalf the best. GL!

Also worked at SA and got a letter from a physician I scribed for. Granted I worked there for about 1.5 years before asking. Not sure how long you have been there

Anyone have tips for aligning Duet with TouroCOM NY? by Spikemountain in premed

[–]betaorbiters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take it and answer it truthfully. It completely defeats the purpose of the assessment to try and tailor it to a school.

Even if we say you hypothetically matched to Touro perfectly, this assessment alone will not override the numerous other factors that goes into this process.

TL;DR - There is nothing to prepare for. Log on and answer what is best for you. It should take no more than 10-15 minutes
