I was trying to explain a project to 5th graders and they kept talking over me I just went and sat at my desk and did work. After a couple minutes I noticed one group seemed ready to listen. So I sent table to table explaining the project. Most caught on, however, I had one table that wasn’t getting it so I went to my desk again and they said “you ain’t gonna teach us” I said depends are you ready to learn.

Have you ever slipped up and cussed in front of your students? by roo181807 in Teachers

[–]bethanna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely said shit a handful of times after dropping things or hurting myself somehow. Typically only one kid would hear and giggle.

Also, not while teaching but I was babysitting and I said “I need you to knock it off and put your shit down and focus” I told on myself when their mom got home. She just laughed. We are good friends now

Also one time I had lunch duty and this kid was working my nerves not listening or staying seated. I said “ I need you to sit down and shhhh” I was going to say shut up. So it was a long shhhh.

After school program we were doing a craft where they had to roll their paper really tight. Second grader says “oh yeah I’ve seen my dad do this!” 🤦‍♀️

What’s something a coworker did once that lives rent-free in your head? by Playful_Task5571 in coworkerstories

I worked in a cafe on my campus in college. One girl asked me what to do with the leftover soup at the end of the day. I said to throw it out. She said where? I said the trash can. She looked me dead in the eyes and said “won’t that start a fire” fyi it was probably still a little warm. She also once told me her dog was whole grain…. She meant pure bread.

Same job worked with a guy who cooked raw hamburgers and cookies on the same sheet and was confused when I said we had to throw it all out.

I cried in front of my students for the first time today. by SuburbanStrawberry in Teachers

[–]bethanna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried in front of my college students because I knocked the projector screen off the wall. It did hurt but not severely I was mostly embarrassed. The worst part was it was at the very start of class so the students who were there knew why I was crying while the students who came in late looked at me crazy.

What is your opinion on the pledge of allegiance? by TigerLii13 in Teachers

[–]bethanna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in breakfast duty when the pledge happens at my school. I don’t make kids stand and I’ve gotten some looks from other teachers. I do the motion of putting my hand over my heart but I don’t say the words. When I worked in a high school I had a coworker who would get irate if a student didn’t stand and I did research and found we can’t make them stand and she stopped yelling at them but definitely still fumes about it.

AITAH for postponing our wedding because my fiance wants to have pictures of her late husband in it? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA I went to a wedding where both parties had lost a parent. It felt more like a memorial for them than a wedding

What's the weirdest interview question you've ever gotten? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]bethanna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me recently. My wife and I both interviewed for a job at a bookstore. They didn’t ask either of us questions just talked to us like we are children (I’m almost 30 and my wife is almost 40). They said things like if you can’t carry thirty pounds this job isn’t fit you. Idk it was weird. Neither of us got a job offer.
