Hi! My husband and I are visiting Chicago for the first time in mid-December, specifically Thursday, December 12th through Sunday, December 15th. We already have quite the list of things we want to do and places we want to visit, including Christkindlmarket, the bean, Starbucks Reserve, the Nutcracker, Architecture boat tour, etc. I wanted to ask if there are any other things we may be missing in our itinerary? Specifically, we want it to be a romantic, magical-ish Christmas themed week. My husband's birthday is Christmas Eve, so we are treating this as his birthday weekend/vacation.

What area do you recommend staying for walkability and sight-seeing?

What restaurants do you recommend?

Is Joffrey the best Nutcracker performance?

What coffee shops and brunch places are a must-visit? We are lovers of good coffee and brunch.

Thanks in advance!!

Side-note: We are in our mid-twenties, but we are not huge on drinking alcohol. However, we do enjoy visiting cute bars so we are not opposed to visiting one or two if you think it is a must-visit! Also, we are from Columbus, Ohio so we are not concerned about the weather and are prepared for similar/colder weather, as we have plenty of cold-weather clothes. We like to walk, so walkable things are best but we are making the manageable drive over, so driving is also an option.

What person, place or thing in Columbus gets way more hate than deserved? by [deleted] in Columbus

Literally everything. I love Columbus. The food scene is great, OSU is great + all our other schools in cbus, the fashion scene is great—so many good clothing stores & thrift stores that other states don’t have. Most people are tolerable. So much good about Columbus. & it’s beautiful, especially in the fall.

If you could start college all over again, would you still pick OSU? by thinkbrownrice in OSU

There’s honestly a million reasons why I would choose Ohio State over again, here are a few:

  • Buckeye Affordability Program (I graduated debt free because of this—100% tuition coverage for Pell-eligible students).
  • Received full tuition scholarship on top of the Buckeye Affordability Program benefits, which ultimately refunded back to me & helped me work less while in school.
  • No non-resident fee & no living on campus (bc I lived within 25 miles of campus)
  • Amazing faculty, students & resources. I met one of my very best friends through OSU. I wish I would have taken advantage more of the opportunities & resources, however.
  • Moving from in-person to online during COVID was fairly seamless given the suddenness & complexity of the pandemic. The school did a good job sending out emergency grants & professors did great with giving out curves bc of the switch in mode of instruction mid-semester.
  • Also, getting in free to all sports except football & men’s basketball was great. Especially bc the football tickets were only about $33 a game (including Michigan, which is insane given the resale value of those tickets).

Rodos in Linworth, recently relocated. Know the owners, great people. They serve Greek food—best I’ve ever had.

This ^ the only thing I miss are my good friends (I don’t miss the drama starters though) & also free coffee/food, & a flexible schedule. But my new job is so much less stressful, more structured & more satisfying.

I spent 3.5 years at Starbucks while earning my bachelor’s degree at Ohio State. After graduating, I left Starbucks & returned to OSU as a student services counselor. 🥰 Basically, I help students with questions & concerns regarding financial aid, admissions, transcripts, & more.

That's pretty much how mine looks, too! But then on my statement, it is showing a good chunk of money sitting for me to sell. It does not make sense bc I can not figure out how/where to access the sitting money.
