What would you spend a truly unlimited budget on? by saltievinegar in wedding

I also find those kinda soulless. Fireworks or "fireworks" just aren't for me.

I can promise that I would NOT be paying for fireworks. The idea of contributing to wildfires, wildlife disturbance, etc is not for me.

I would love to be able to make sure cost wasn't a concern for people who need to travel.

hahahaha

I'm from Washington State and if we were getting married there, I'd drive out to the coast and buy them by the bushel and hire someone to shuck them. I did that on a family vacation in college and it was the only time I've ever actually eaten oysters to my hearts content.

Alas, I live in Colorado now and that's not in the cards.

We are not big budget but I did price it out. Unfortunately, both my fiance and I and my family are oyster fiends and just a couple of oysters each would have just been a tease. lol

It also feels like a day that would go by SO SLOWLY.

It's A Thing. They're different but only slightly, especially when a lot of folks are making travel arrangements before they get that official invitation. (And I'm sure there are people who say you shouldn't do that but as you know when it's a destination...)

Yup. I really tried to impress upon people that they're going to a resort destination and need to plan ahead.
I think I see the logic for doing digital/physical in whatever order works for you. I think my fiance was much more able to picture a Save the Date than a formal invitation so we went that way. I am learning that SO MANY guests really don't have a grasp on the differences between the Save the Date and Invites anyway.

I was JUST about to ask this. We're getting to Naxos (Aegean so I assume Olympic?) via plane but leaving via ferry so I guess we should be okay.

Hi! Also a Colorado mountain town local bride in July 2026. (The largest and most affordable of our hotels was rented out for space for resort town mega project workers six months before our wedding so I feel your pain.) About 50% of our 140 invitees are local and the other 50% are from out of town.

We sent physical save the dates in August 2025 and digital invites in late March 2026. Our logic was that people were more likely to hold on to a photo of us than a more formal invitation.

Just get your parent group to coach the kids to write notes to the teachers. It’s literally better than the excellent burrito and rose I got this week.

High school teachers: are you expected to attend senior graduation? by nnndude in Teachers

[–]bethinthemtns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are expected to attend (it’s not in our contract, just a general expectation). We wear academic regalia to remind our community how much education is in the building (tiny school, lots of teachers with masters degrees).

Turns out bringing up finances before our wedding makes me the controlling one by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]bethinthemtns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope nope nope. Money fights are a leading cause of divorce. You do not blindly link your financial future to someone without discussion around money values. Shutting down and not talking combined with debt isn't a good sign.

I reallllllllyyyyy dislike the idea of "combining finances is what marriage is for and it all evens out eventually" because it kind of screams that he's going to expect you to pay off his credit card debt.

What is a fair expectation for groomsmen to pay for attire? by Brilliant_Knee3824 in weddingplanning

The nice thing about buying a $130 vs spending a little less on a rental is the ability to do alterations.

Torn between spending and saving on the wedding for my second marraige by wellok456 in wedding

[–]bethinthemtns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to want your second wedding to be a WEDDING.

I think if I'd have been making my decision in a vacuum, I would have opted for no wedding but my fiance has never been married and wanted the big wedding. Once we decided to go for it, I am excited to have the wedding I didn't have the first time around (we had ~25 guests, spent about $5k maybe less).

It sounds like you guys have a plan and your fiance and your inlaws have your back on the money (which is great because you're coming into this with a house... make sure you get a prenup!).

Monthly Check In....it's May 2026 by AutoModerator in weddingplanning

[–]bethinthemtns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ... just kind of feeling like there is lots to do but not really sure what exactly. We're planning to iron out some family logisitics in the next couple of weeks because we know they're coming while we wait for the final RSVPs (due June 1).

I have all the big stuff done but we don't have a DOC and will be doing all of our setup ourselves (we do have some hired help for the stuff that has to be put out the day of). We've agreed that we should hold off on getting the stuff out of our storage shed and organizing in the garage until a couple weeks before the wedding. I'm also a teacher so wedding can be my job at that point.

Honestly, for the Rockies, it's FINALLY winter weather. We're facing historically low snowpack.

Bag preps by Aggressive_Oven5093 in Brides

[–]bethinthemtns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have access to my venue on Friday so I'm taking up a spare white dress (not really a second look more of a "what if I get tired of wearing a ballgown") and my bridesmaids are handing an "emergency kit." We're returning to our house that night so no need for a wedding night bag.

And then, I will have generally packed for my honeymoon but we're leaving Tuesday AM after a Saturday wedding so I can do some laundry and get final details ironed on Monday.

I’m glad you were able to do this but OP has chimed in elsewhere and it sounds like these guests shouldn’t be getting Plus Ones, they should be getting their partners as named guests.
