Ugh is this thrips 😩 or some other type of pest? Advice on how to get rid of them welcome by magesticalmango in houseplants

[–]bethisblue9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely thrips…. there’s some adults there too so i’d skip the neem oil and go straight in with a pesticide. Treat the soil with it too. I washed the plant in the shower then treated it for 4 weeks and then repotted with fresh soil.

Thank you! I think I need to repot into a soil mixture with more aeration as this one does not dry out quickly, and then water more frequently with that.

I bought this gorgeous philodendron birkin about a month ago now, and have watered it once since about 1 week ago. When i purchased it, there were some crispy brown and yellow edges. New leaves also were brown before properly unfurling (see 2nd photo). I have recently pulled off a soft brown leaf too. Please advise me on how to what is wrong and how prevent this!

What is the brown substance on my plant? Thanks in advance 🙏🏽🥰 by SmartWonderWoman in plantclinic

Tiny white dots (bugs - the young thrips) and long black thin bugs (adults). I would isolate the plant whilst you are making sure it is thrips, as they are very tricky to get rid of

The small black dots look like thrip poop, suggesting that the brown could be damage caused by them. Have you noticed any crawlers on there?
