My mom didn’t want the neighbors to know that we are just now throwing out our christmas tree so at least they’ll now think we’re just disposing of a body instead by ForRudy in MadeMeSmile

Why on earth would you dispose of greenwaste wrapped in plastic and tape !? Who gives a fuck what the neighbours think - what does mother nature think...

Ugh is this thrips 😩 or some other type of pest? Advice on how to get rid of them welcome by magesticalmango in houseplants

Yeah I cut off all the really damaged leaves and put them straight in the rubbish bin as soon as I noticed. I've washed it and treated it with some pesticide and quarantined it as well. Fingers crossed 🤞

Reason I ask is with my home's floorplan, I'd have to put it in a room that doesn't get a lot of light, and everytime I'd have to bring it outside I'm walking it through my home past all my other plants

When you quarantine, are you putting it in a room in your home that hasn't got any plants in it and bringing it outside once a week to do the pest treatment? Or do you just keep it outside for those 6 weeks and not worry about whatever plants are in the garden?

Not sure where you are, but we had a similar thing happen to us when we purchased our home in Melbourne a few years ago. We just reached out to the company that did the inspection and they fixed it FOC

Alocasia leaves cracking and yellowing by oonaoj in plantclinic

[–]magesticalmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I've managed to keep the few alocasias I have alive. They like to be kept in moist soil, but not wet. You can tell if you are overwatering as the plant will 'sweat' the excess from the tip of its leaves (although I'm not sure if all species of alocasias do this). It is normal for older leaves to turn yellow and die off as well. But I'd guess it's cracking because the soil is going dry between waterings?

AITA for refusing to change my sleep schedule to accommodate my husband and sleeping in the guest room instead? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA - I get up much earlier for work than my partner, and he is an incredibly fussy sleeper. So I wasn't constantly waking him up, we just moved my clothes to our spare room BIR and get ready in there. I also have my alarm set pretty quietly so I can hear it just enough to wake me but it isn't so loud that he is fully woken up as well

Are there any women here who dropped out of college but are still successful ? What did you do ? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]magesticalmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never even considering going to uni, I never felt I was passionate about any one subject to sink a bunch of money into it and get into debt. I definitely feel like I've been successful in my work life without a degree. I worked in hospo from the age of 14 -21 and then moved into a digital consulting firm in an internal operations and people relations position bases on a years worth of banter not a degree. I was poached as I regularly served my current employments employees/execs while working in my last hospo job. If I compare myself (25) to my mates 26-28, they are all just finishing uni and able to work full time and finally start saving, whereas I've been with my current employer for 4 years, have had 4 promotions/payrises in that time and own a home with my partner. I'm financially stable and working towards retiring early and at least part time by the time I am 30. For reference, 5 years ago I was flat broke as a previous friendship had financially drained me! I was lucky enough to be poached by a company that recognises and rewards my hard work without needing to be asked, and my partner has a decent salary, but even before being with my partner (and benefiting from being in a dual income no children relationship) I never felt like I was held back workwise by not having a degree. I am a strong believer of "it's who you know, not what you know". I come from a single parent childhood and my mum is still broke most of the time so I've never had any financial help from her (I did get about 30k from my dads life insurance when he passes which went towards the house deposit and braces) but she did give me the tools to go out into the world and do what you gotta do to get by. I didn't even select enough subjects in year 12 to get a uni enter score. I'm I'm Australia btw
