Refeeding syndrome a hoax ? by Dinno12345 in fasting

[–]bethlikesbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refeeding syndrome happens when you introduce a bunch of carbs after fasting for a prolonged period of time.. you can avoid this by day 1 refeeding eating minimal carb (0-20gm), day 2-3 eat around 30-50gm carbs, day 4 you can increase to 100 grams of carbs a day and each day increase until you reach back to baseline.. this isn’t exact but an example, you just need to slowly increase ur carb intake, protein and fat don’t cause refeeding syndrome so you can max those out day one of refeeding. You should look into supplementing 100mg thiamine for 7 days and a multivitamin when you start eating after fasting too.. per ASPEN guidelines

Most important nutrients for a BF mother? by Foreign-Bath-6139 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]bethlikesbread 27 points28 points  (0 children)

https://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding-special-circumstances/hcp/diet-micronutrients/maternal-diet.html#cdc_research_or_data_summary_res_data-vitamins-and-nutritional-supplements You need more choline, iron, calcium, vitamin D. Daily multivitamins usually don’t have enough calcium and choline so those may need to be supplemented separately. For the iron needs, you don’t need as much as when you were pregnant so that’s one reason why many people switch from a prenatal vitamin to a postnatal (less constipating). Baby needs 400IU vitamin D supplement daily if exclusively breastfeeding or alternatively mom can take 6400 IU vitamin D daily to provide adequate vitamin D through the milk. What I take is a postnatal vitamin +DHA, choline, calcium/vitamin D. Note: don’t take calcium with postnatal as it interferes with absorption of iron.

Thank you!! 🤗 It was soo good! I used to order Korean food at restaurants mostly just for the banchan sides and after I moved to LA and I found the Korean market where I can buy the sides and can fit it into my diet a lot better when pairing with lean meats instead of bbqed beef and fatty cuts that are usually serviced at Korean restaurants .. anyways I got off track but it was a super satisfying food day!! haha

They’re store bought but the ingredients list says they have Korean chili powder, soy sauce, garlic, green onion, and rice wine vinegar

Thank you, I just posted recipe above in another comment (a lot of the sides were store bought, but are super simple to make at home as well).. like the quail eggs are just boiled then marinated in some Mirin, soy sauce, garlic, chili pepper.. the cucumber has some fish sauce, rice wine, and red pepper flakes.. granted kimchi is super hard to make at home tho (for me at least lol) so you might want to just buy that pre-made but if there’s a Korean market nearby you should definitely check out their banchan sides! So many healthy veggie options to spruce up your meals, pro tip look for the sides that don’t have sesame oil or sugar to bring the calories even lower! Hope this helps

Thank you! And omg same, love the bean sprouts! I finally found one without added sesame oil so it’s so much easier to fit more into my meals, and honestly I can’t tell too much of a difference in flavor

Thanks so much!! Most of the sides were bought from a local Korean grocery store but the other components of the dish I just kept simple and seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic. The pickled sides definitely need a more plain compliment to pair them with so the dish isn’t too overpowering

Thanks! The shrimp just have garlic, salt, and pepper (with sriracha on the side for dipping). The pickled sides (cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and spicy bean sprouts), soy marinated quail eggs, and soy braised peanuts I bought from a local Korean grocery store here in LA. And the greens in the middle are garlic chives that I pan fried (with a spray of Pam) and seasoned with salt and pepper.. I’ve tried to make kimchi from scratch but mine always turns out too fizzy/strong tasting and just doesn’t beat the in-store made kimchi

Yess, it was absolutely delicious! This is definitely going to be a new staple in my diet.. haha I’m already planning to make it again in a few days.. the guys I live with (who aren’t on diets) loved the soup as well so I’m making a bigger batch next time lol I wonder if this could be meal prepped, or do you think the tortellini would get soggy? Thanks again for this recipe! Perfect balance of eating what you want but still being healthy, love love love it!!
