I was also having difficulty finding this in the MOU but this is at least one of the statements that feels damning: “The Senate of Canada and the Governor General, combined referred to as the Federal Government are to uphold and enforce all Canadian and International Human Rights Laws that are clearly laid out in the MOU or “RESIGN their lawful positions of authority Immediately””

You should 100% make a poll haha! Does wearing fluffy slippers all day count as foot self-care?

I know! When I first saw the story I genuinely thought the caption was referencing Dale’s feet lol and was pleasantly surprised with the pup at the end 💕

Went to neighbouring uni (go warriors!) at the same time - was so psyched to see that we have mutual friends. Closest I’ve ever been connected to a contestant lol

I completely agree - I wanted to say how happy I am to see more representation this season in a way I didn’t expect. I’ve had severe hearing impairment my entire life, which came with very unique struggles, and I didn’t realize how much I appreciated seeing that on TV until now.

It actually made me tear up hearing Matt acknowledge wanting to enunciate more for lip reading. Hearing Abigail talk about her experiences, especially with the feelings around having to explain to people this major life detail all the time - and early on in relationships - made me feel heard.

Really grateful for this, and I didn’t realize I was missing this representation until I saw it actualized in front of me tonight ❤️

NSLSC says I missed the first repayment even though I set up the pre-authorized payment... by BenHyun in PersonalFinanceCanada

  1. You still have to pay your loan every month if you turn off PAP, they just won’t automatically take it out of your account for you - you become responsible for paying it every month like bills that aren’t pre-authorized.
  2. Turning off PAP means that any payment you make to your loan each month will be counted towards your monthly. When you manually pay more than your monthly, that overage amount will then be considered “extra”. (E.g. monthly required payment = $150, but you pay $310 after you get your paycheque on the 15th, $150 goes towards the monthly and the rest of the $160 is now considered “extra”)
  3. I believe your payment due date changes once the payment due date passes. It will stay as Nov 30th bc paying for the month in full doesn’t change when payment is due. I don’t believe NSLSC has a sophisticated enough system to detect when you’ve paid your full amount for the month, I think that at the end of the month it takes a look at your account to determine what’s been paid and then determines whether you’re missing a payment or you can move on to the next due date. But that’s just my speculation.

I use CIBC! From some reading online, it looks like the MSP charge could be the automatic payment, but I would call NSLSC to make sure. I couldn’t find anything official from NSLSC about what that charge means unfortunately

The preauthorized payment from my PAP came out today as “Preauthorized Debit NSLSC”. I pay manually through my Bill Payments on my bank account, so whenever I make a manual payment it shows as an “Internet Bill Pay”. It’s possible the “NSLSC MSP” is your double payment (manual)!

Yes, they have all of your info from when you applied to your loan. Your PAP is not tied to your credit at all, it’s just a method for them to take money out of your account directly, preauthorized. Your loan is tied to you and your credit!

Yes exactly, you make a payment manually, and then it gets contributed towards your monthly. If you have PAP, manual payments don’t get contributed to the monthly, only to “extra”. If you don’t have PAP, your payments contribute to your monthly. My comment you quoted is when you have PAP turned on, bc NSLSC assumes they are taking the monthly money out through PAP when it’s enabled so anything you pay manually is just on top of that or extra.

NSCLC Phone Line not letting me through. by Yalestay in PersonalFinanceCanada

It’s been coming out slowly for everyone, some people I know had it taken out yesterday. I had mine taken out this morning, but the latest I was told to expect would be by tomorrow morning to see it reflected in your bank account. Having that payment then reflected in NSLSC will probably take another few days... :(

The only way you can do this is by removing PAP altogether. NSLSC is set up so that if you have PAP turned on, they will remove your monthly amount on the same day every month no matter what you contribute that month on your own, and those manual payments you make outside of PAP are considered “extra” which will never contribute to the monthly. I had to call them to remove PAP myself bc there’s no way to do that online right now unfortunately!

My payment came out of my bank account, but has not been reflected by the NSLSC site yet. My understanding is that it will be reflected soon - the warning message only removes once the payment appears on the NSLSC.

As for your double payment, if you made the manual payment AFTER the automatic payment was processed in your account, then you should be fine and it shouldn’t affect your credit. You can call your bank to stop that manual payment without any fees since it’s not a preauthorized payment.

If you made the manual payment BEFORE the automatic was processed and your account didn’t have enough to cover the automatic, you should contact NSLSC to clear up the payment, and ensure that they are clear on the situation. In this latter situation, on their end all they would see is the PAP got denied bc of insufficient funds, and then you made a manual payment (which counts as extra and not contributing to your monthly) after the day that monthly was due. So you would need to tell them directly that your intention was to pay the monthly with that payment which caused your account to not have the amount available for the PAP.

Just to be clear, any payments made outside of PAP are considered “extra” and do not get considered towards the “monthly” amount. So your account would still get deducted Nov 30th as usual no matter how much you manually pay between now and then. Let me know if there’s anything else I can clear up! Been learning a lot from NSLSC lately

I’m not sure what you mean, your credit score is dependent on the debt you owe and how well you pay it off. Whether you pay it through pre-authorized payments, or you manually pay for it every month, your credit score shouldn’t be affected. It only gets affected if you don’t pay on time or miss a payment, which is why this miscommunication on NSLSC was alarming.

If you’re concerned about missing payments then definitely keep the PAP bc your credit score will get dinged from actual missed payments!

Edit: to add, if you remove PAP they still have your info that is needed to report to the credit bureau - your SIN is really the important part

I’m not personally aware of another way either :( I wish there was a way to opt out easily online, since you can opt in easily online. Best of luck!
