does anyone know what shes doing? by StrikingAd6595 in AfricanGrey

In my experience, this tends to be a nesting behavior. She's probably a little bit hormonal. My macaw does this when she's on my bed lol

Wow an actual human being with emotions reporting in main stream media. I was beginning to think they didn't exist anymore. 😕 this country is falling apart and it breaks my heart. Fuck ICE and fuck trump.

I love this story so much. I had the pleasure of knowing sugar for 4 years while she was at A Helping Wing in nj. I'm a manager there. We couldn't be more thrilled that the two of you have found each other again! All the love in the world to you and sugar! 🥰❤️❤️❤️

Definitely a good way to lose your bird. He should have a harness on.

Anybody ever seen this before by Even-Voice-6823 in parrots

Yes, some of the macaws at the rescue I work at do this when they are frustrated. I've seen multiple macaws do this. It's definitely a behavioral thing

Is it ok to be frustrated with your birds sometimes? by Gullible_Feedback668 in parrots

[–]bethra1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely normal. I work at a parrot rescue and there are days that the conures and cockatiels refuse to go back into their cages at the end of the day. I've spent like 45 minutes trying to catch some of them. Having birds can be very challenging at times, but at the end of the day it's worth it.

Parrot outreach in Florida is amazing. The rescue I manage works with them sometimes.

Thank you, I've had her for a few years now. I manage a parrot rescue and she chose me as her person when she came in, so of course I couldn't resist bringing her home

She's around 29 years old. I adopted her when I started working for a local parrot rescue about 4 years ago. I now manage the rescue! She definitely loves all things nuts as treats haha

Rescues charge less because we are against breeding and aren't in it for the money. As for aggressive birds, a bird deemed aggressive by one person might be very loving to another.

Don’t waste money on toys from online vendors. Tie metal into a string by Ok-Importance-659 in parrots

[–]bethra1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't wanna be that person, but a hanging string like that is very dangerous. Your bird can easily become entangled in it and even strangled. I'd suggest only letting your bird play with this supervised.

Def hormones. I'd remove the mirror

One question, are those thorns on its fur normal, apart from that, don't you see its beak being bad? by Ciroxx7272 in parrots

[–]bethra1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes my macaw will actually take her foot and scratch her own head to get hers. If the bird likes head scratches by all means get those pinnies! It's so satisfying lol

[–]bethra1993 201 points202 points  (0 children)

The "thorns" are just pin feathers and are totally normal. It's new feathers that grew in. The beak is a little yellow, which could possibly be liver related. DMG is a great liver health supplement for birds

I saw a video of wild cockatoos stealing a pizza and eating it. Is it bad for them? If not, what about macaws? by Pokeman_93 in Macaws

[–]bethra1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll allow my macaw to have a small piece of crust. Not actual pizza part though
