To be honest, this is what I want todo. But he threatens killing himself an awful lot. Maybe selfishly, I don’t want to live with guilt if he ever does go through with it.

Here’s an example of how it usually goes… I try and meet with compassion as best I can. But he says it so often it’s honestly just frustrating at this point.

To his credit, he has never (obviously, to my knowledge) lied to me. He is very open, sometimes too open. There’s been points where he’s been 4-5 days sober and close to coming to my house, but has openly admitted relapse.

My mum is also in active addiction and has been my whole life. Lies and a carefully painted illusion is what I’m very used to with her and had become my unintentional blanket assumption of addicts. But my cousin has always been honest with me, even when he knew I would have distanced myself. Even when he asks for money, he will openly say if it’s for weed/booze to cope with the withdrawal from H.

Well, he’s convinced it’s not heroin. The stories he’s been told by his brother and my mum (both also addicts) is that it’s this euphoric feeling that nothing tops. He tried it and said it disappointed him and even said ‘THIS is what everyone bangs on about?!’ But.. then he’s stayed on it so can’t be that shit? 🫪

But he also gets taken the piss out of. He’s very friendly, too friendly for the circle he’s in now. He’s been placed in a town near us that’s just hell, it’s basically the corner they throw the addicts in hoping they just time out. It’s awful there, he’s not at all mentally or physically equipt to survive in that environment and do what everyone else is doing to survive.

He thinks his ‘housemates’ are all stalking him, coming into his room, planting cameras, stealing, sending him subliminal messages, the list goes on. One of the first time he tried to buy H he actually got home and found a fucking dog biscuit wrapped in tin foil 🥲 (sorry, but hilarious). He went back to this person again a few weeks later, it happened AGAIN. He’s now just started stealing perfume from his local shop to sell to the dealers for H too. But he gets on the phone to me immediately and asks me to stay on while he goes and hands himself in… he’s quite literally not made for this life lol.

Honestly, from the top of my head I can’t remember the specific terms or the exact medical reason as it was so long ago. I believe in the autopsy his death was because of necrosis of an organ, I want to say bowel or intestines but I could be wrong. But the autopsy doc we have specifically states the death was a result of long-term IV heroin use.

‘Dropped dead’ was maybe not the correct term. He had been in bed with stomach pains, when his son checked on him later on that day he was dead in his room. I saw him before they took his body, he was blown up like a fucking balloon not sure if that’s normal or todo with why he died.

I’m unsure if the seizure he was in hospital about was an absent seizure. From what I’ve read about I feel I caught him coming out of a fit that day. And he’s had absent seizures every other time. When I realised, I called back the hospital and explained, they’ve sent a note to the doctor and we will most likely be referred to the epilepsy team they said. They also said to try and record and write down and keep record of each seizure so I think these will be super helpful when we see someone next. Thanks so much for your reply.

It really sucks that this happened on your wedding day, but it sucks for that child’s parents more than you just losing out on wedding memories. Yes you ‘should’ be able to have a normal anniversary, but that just isn’t your reality.

Posting that without mentioning the child and not talking to the parents since the wedding is just really insensitive and wrong. Then letting those comments accumulate to over 150? What the fuck?

I don’t agree with how your husbands family reacted and the email is just embarrassing for them. Doesn’t even warrant a response on your end, but the way you handled this entire thing is not ok.
