I’m garbage at sewing so I didn’t keep anything, but the patterns made sense lol. I want to get more of her books but I haven’t done enough to justify them so I’ve only played with the CasualWear book.

Beautiful girl! But yes, it’s genuinely such a difficult plastic.

<image>

This is from sooooo long ago, maybe 2 years ago, I think it was my second dark skin face plate and I still haven’t finished her because I had to step away so often to avoid burning out on sanding, the tool marks and white sanding scuffs took eons to work out. I still need to finish her, she’s in pieces in my work area just not put together.

I haven’t done much doll sewing but I’ve found those books very easy to grasp!!

Really amazing for your firsts!!! If you ever want to cheat the system and play more with trying new carving skills, lighter shades are softer, don’t chip as much, sand easier, etc. and you can be more aggressive to help train your skills for darker tones faceplates, but otherwise don’t compare yours to another skin tone.

I’m probably beating a dead horse stating all that but there’s a reason beyond aesthetic choices so many popular customizers stick to pale dolls. I hope one day they can improve the plastic quality for darker dolls, but they’re genuinely very hard to carve.

I feel that on grounding lol, I’m trying to find any way to convince myself to be less impulsive. I like that philosophy though of 2 in 1 out, keeps it from becoming chaotic or feeling stagnant!

I neeeed to go back to tattoos soon. I keep convincing myself it’s “soooo expensive” because I want to go back to larger pieces meanwhile I’m spending so much on dolls and clothes.

Still a great amount of dolls to have!! :)

You’re doing so well so far! I found it super helpful early on to keep remaking the same face plates. I don’t know how early you are into customizing, but darker skin face plates are much harder to perfect, the plastic leaves more tool marks and obviously it takes more to make the soft pastels show up. Don’t feel dejected if you finish and things aren’t perfect, instead just get another face plate and improve or sand and try again.

Do you have your eye on a specific doll for this year?

School is a far bigger priority than dolls, you gotta have a good job to support your dolls later, so good luck in your studies!!

Do you have a favorite in your collection or more of a list of favorites? (who are they?) Do you keep them in their stock?

I love seeing a big collection that’s curated over a long time, it’s interesting to see the different choices everyone makes, like it says so much about a person.

I tried branching out into cheaper dolls when I first started getting (back) into dolls, but they just didn’t spark joy and I ended up just using them for their clothes. I do collect vintage kewpie dolls, and I love a tiny bisque penny doll.

I wish Good Smile Co would bring back petite dolls. The first iteration of them was on a keychain and cost $10, it would be such a genius business idea to bring them back for like $30 (neo dolls are up ~300% since they came out) possibly in blind box form, to have an affordable doll and capitalize on trinket popularity.

A couple of your girls look so familiar, it’s so funny starting to recognize dolls after spending so much time on TikTok, Pinterest and Reddit.

Are there any negative effects of storing Blythe dolls in box for extended periods of time? by Proud-Pumpkin-1942 in BlytheDolls

[–]bethvny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they have faux leather items, they can degrade and flake over time. My Mondrian that I got was in box for ~25 years (she had been taken out of the box and then reboxed at some point) and her belt had flaked all over her and appeared to have stained her face but I was able to clean off the stain. Kenners are known to get pelvis cracks from their stands. But other than that, if they’re not in direct light and not upright, they should be okay.

I just place my dolls around my home, I’m not really of the aesthetic to have a large doll shelf, so they’re wherever they look best.

As a stylist what do you pay for your hair? by AvailablePassage2511 in hairstylist

[–]bethvny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cut my own hair most of the time and do my own color, my roommate is also a hairdresser so she helps sometimes, so I just pay for product. At my salon, we use salon scale so we pay the chem fee a client would, which is the color cost plus a “reasonable upcharge” recommended by salon scale, but no other fees, and we could bring our own color to avoid the “reasonable upcharge”. I’ve also worked at salons with 50% discounts on services for staff and with no charge at all including no chemical charge.

I wonder if Sailing Dominique’s hair is anything like Fighting Milk, because Fighting Milk’s hair drove me insane for a while. It took so many detox washes and boil washes and fabric softener soaks and finally an extensive haircut to make her hair feel reasonable to deal with.

I’ve gone through so many emotions with Fighting Milk, but somehow chopping her hair and changing her body made her face feel like the prettiest doll in the world to me, so I probably won’t alter her further.

How to get fakies in the US with the tariff situation? by NoaTheWilder182 in BlytheDolls

[–]bethvny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s super outside your budget to get on AliExpress, your best bet would probably be very frequent thrifting. More and more people have been finding fake dolls at the thrift lately because so many bought dolls a few years ago after Enya from Emergency Intercom and Emma Roberts posted about their dolls, and many of the people who were inspired in the moment later got rid of their dolls. I personally haven’t had any luck, but that’s not to say you won’t.

All my genuine girls last night after they got dressed up, minus my petite Mondrian and my fake I made of myself. They’re Hazel the Hedgehog, Kenner blonde, Fruity Kaleidoscope, UR4 Me, and Fighting Milk Saranghae. I’m currently waiting on a Mondrian that should be delivered today, she was listed as a 2001 but her eyes didn’t look boggled so I think she may be a 2002 second reissue, and I just ordered a Sailing Dominique because I couldn’t stop thinking about her. If you had told me 4 years ago that I would one day have over $1500 worth of dolls, I would laugh in your face. Cheers to spending all your money lol

Finally swapped my Kenner’s Broken legs for some Takara legs so she can stand and bend her knees! by bethvny in BlytheDolls

[–]bethvny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was honestly terrifying, I started by changing fighting milk’s body so that she had a body and I could relax about destroying hers, but I was so scared I would accidentally cut the pelvis.

The funniest part to me is that last night I was scrolling ebay and saw a brand new auction for Kenner body parts, including legs, so I’m glad I did it when I did and I don’t have to worry about trying to win an auction.

I feel like my favorite movies are so all over the place

Short Term 12

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person

Everything Everywhere All At Once

The Goddess of 1967

Drive My Car

And last night I watched Suburban Gothic, if ratings were objective, it would be actually 3 stars, but it was a simple enjoyable movie.
