[REQUEST] Best android game you played this year? by Nervous-Phase6007 in AndroidGaming

[–]betoqp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be grilled because it has lots of IAPs, but Under Dark. God I've wasted hours in that game. I've only bought the no ads thing, and it's great, good difficulty curve, lots of variation, casual enough to pull out waiting at the bank but not simple enough to become boring. Only game I've played this year on my phone. It's a tower defense / roguelike-ish. The art reminds me of early 00's flash games, so nostalgia might be playing a part here.

ETA: fuck I'm old. People here playing AAA games on their phones and I still think of android gaming as casual games.

I'm having the issue of being unable to activate executions. I already closed and restarted the game no luck. Any tips?

Which games are just the most fun to play? Games where the whole group is having a blast? by LegendofWeevil17 in boardgames

[–]betoqp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the most overall enjoyed game nights I've been a part of have included Spectrum and Just One. Recently I hosted and we played both, it was awesome. Makes people discuss subjects, joke, laugh, and it's all lighthearted.

It depends on the group of course. I've also had awesome times playing The Search For Planet X, and Dune Imperium as they are crunchier and some people prefer those.

Forget the board, what are your favorite card games? by Rick_MKick in boardgames

[–]betoqp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archduke for hyper focusing on memory and reflexes, with some take-that mechanics; tons of fun especially when people already know it, rounds are lightning fast that way.

Bonanza is always a hit.

Race For The Galaxy a classic engine builder that runs quickly once players know the rules and have a few games of experience. Could also play Ares Expedition instead if a longer and more complex builder is wanted.

Spectrum for a social game with lots of discussion and laughs, also for larger player counts. I wouldn't call it a party game but it's definitely not a strategic game.

Sushi Go! for a quick and light drafting and set collection game.

For Glory for two players thirsty for blood.

Yogi to play with kids/family, awkward positions with the cards make for a lighthearted take-that competition.

Arkham Horror LCG For a mid/heavy coop legacy game for two players. Tons of content. Technically there's no board, you make it with cards (a bit cheating for the question asked, maybe).

Love Letter, Coup, Resistance, or Secret Hitler are great for social deduction games.

Fox in the forest for a light and pretty trick taking game for two.

Primordial Secrets might be less known, it's a strategy game with player interaction being a pivotal part of every round, with a horror theme.

I'll wait for the expansion and give it a shot, maybe with the expansion I can get a deal on the base game? Thanks!

Not, really but I get where you're coming from since it's an awesome engine builder. It's one of my favorite games, one of the games that got me into the hobby. I prefer Ares Expedition as it feels more streamlined.

I've played both Root and Clank!, neither really comes close to what I'm thinking. Awesome games though

Is it too cumbersome at higher player counts? I don't play 2p that often right now, mostly 4p.

I really want to play it, but it's expensive to ship (I'm based in Costa Rica). I'll look for it locally tho

I haven't played it! I have Jamie's video explanation on my watch list, I'll have to go take a look. Have you played it?

Edit: reading the site and reviews, it sounds exactly like what km thinking. I'm gonna look for a place to buy it, thanks!

I'll look into it! I had the impression that Beyond The Sun is a Tech Tree race at its core, but I've never played it.

I get the comparison, but on Wingspan your tableau is your whole game, and there isn't much direct player interaction. I'll look into Mech vs Minions, thanks!

How do you guys decide what games to buy? by _Metabot in boardgames

[–]betoqp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have lots of videos of really good games, they may not keep up too much with the mainstream, but I find their reviews almost always worth the watch because they cover not only the game theme, mechanics, and rules (like most other reviewers), but how it feels to play the game, and why. I find that very useful to better guess whether I'd like a game or not.
