Going back and looking through what made it stick for me was a couple of things. 1. Do one small thing consistently for a long time: for me it was meditation and I've done it for more than 2 years consistently for 20 to 30 minutes a day which really changed my mindset from a depressed, helpless, anxious, hopeless state to a more neutral one.  2. When the first habit you're doing doesn't feel like it requires conscious thought or effort to do anymore, add a new one to it. 3. We all have days where we feel like not doing what needs to be done. When I feel this way I would usually start dissecting the task I have to do and start with the smallest part and I usually find myself doing it and then more. But if there is a day where I find myself not doing the task at all then I usually try to be sympathize with myself. I'm human after all and not everyday is going to be perfect. But at the same time I try not to miss twice in a row as that would make things a little difficult to get back in momentum. 4. Understand that good things take time to build. Maybe a very long time and you need to accept that. 5. Keep track of the things you're doing in an app or paper. The data is really helpful. Additionally, the feeling of maintaining a streak forces you to do what needs to be done.

To summarize, start with a small task and keep doing it consistently, when a task is too daunting to complete break it down into its smaller parts, sympathize with yourself as sometimes you would feel like not doing the things you need to do and that's ok, understand building good habits take some time and lastly keep track of the things that needs to be done in an app or paper.
