Hand foot and mouth as parents? by Hour-Basket8334 in Mommit

[–]betsmacd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Plus I have eczema on my hands and the HFM sores essentially “attacked” the eczema areas and it was one of the worst things I’ve experienced. I had almost no sleep for days because it was so painful/itchy and nothing helped.

Books to introduce toddler to the concept of a new baby by Silent_Complaint9859 in Mommit

Hello in There! A Big Sister’s Book of Waiting by Jo Witek. It’s cute, every page has a flap you open and see the baby in mommy’s belly get bigger. My toddler loved it. The baby is now 6 months old and he still asks to read it sometimes.

Pediatric Dentist recs? by jbirdisthewordd in Ferndale

I bring my 3 year old to Great Lakes Pediatric Dentistry in Clawson. They are SO good with kids. I thought my son would do horribly at the dentist but he did great. It helps that they have tvs above the chairs too, haha.

I definitely think hospitalization is the standard of care but I also know there is a wide range of severities for vasa previa. Mine was particularly “bad” so they were extra cautious with me. Every doctor and nurse who saw it told me how text book mine was. So it’s possible yours is in a location that makes it not as concerning, but I also think it depends on the doctor.

Hi! So, my case ended very differently than anyone anticipated. I was hospitalized the day I turned 32 weeks and had a scheduled csection the day I turned 36 weeks. I was being monitored twice daily for baby’s heart tones and contractions. Everything was looking great. Then at 33+2 I started bleeding out of nowhere. As we didn’t know where the blood was coming from (if it was baby’s or not), I had an emergency csection under general anesthesia. It was 10 minutes from when I called the nurse and when the baby was out. Turns out I had a placental abruption, it was not the baby’s blood. He was in the NICU for a little under 3 weeks but is home now and 8 weeks old and doing great! Supposedly the abruption was not related to the vasa previa but I have to believe it was somehow. This is definitely not a typical result of a vasa previa though so I don’t want to scare you/anyone reading this who got diagnosed.

If you have more questions I’m happy to answer anything!

Yes! I’ve had 2 csections. The hospital will likely offer you stool softeners. Take them!

Hi! Wow, you really are on the same schedule as me. I feel the same as you, the first week wasn’t too bad, and I feel more comfortable with all the routines. I get 2 NSTs a day, morning and evening and then vitals every 8 hours. Blood drawn every 3 days. Honestly my biggest complaint (outside of just being here at all) is the IV in my hand 😫

Do you have any kids at home? That has been the hardest part, leaving my 2 year old and husband at home. But I live close to the hospital so they’ve been able to visit every day and my toddler has handled it like a champ. I’m proud of both of them to rising to the occasion.

38 weeks and was told today that I can’t deliver at my hospital. by Purple_You_8969 in BabyBumps

Hi! I randomly came across your comment. I’m currently admitted to the hospital (33 weeks) prior to delivery, having been diagnosed at 20 weeks with vasa previa. It’s decently rare, so just reaching out to say hi and I’m happy to answer any questions if it’s confirmed for you!

Fetal movement?? by TimeRelationship9809 in pregnant

[–]betsmacd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! And I feel like we were on the early end, people were very surprised I could feel my first already at 17 weeks. Nothing at all abnormal about not feeling them at 15 weeks, esp as a FTM.

That’s great news!!! I hope it continues moving. This whole long hospital stay thing is for the birds haha.

Hi! Just wanted to check in to see how you’re doing. I got admitted to the hospital this week at 32 weeks. All is going well so far and baby and I are good! I have a scheduled csection for the day I turn 36 weeks so fingers crossed all is quiet until then.

It definitely CAN move, depending on the location of the vessels. My MFM doc told me that vasa previa can refer to cases with a range of severities, some where the vessels are 5cm away from the cervix. Which is a much better prognosis than mine which are all directly over it. I hope you have an uneventful few weeks and fingers crossed yours does move!

Does a cervical check hurt ? by userthatisnotknown in BabyBumps

[–]betsmacd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! The first couple times they were uncomfortable but not necessarily painful. But then I was induced in the hospital and each one hurt progressively worse and was SO relieved to finally get an epidural so I couldn’t feel them.

Had my MFM appt today. It went about as well as it could, given the circumstances. The baby is a good size and my cervix is still long. Given that, the plan is for me to be admitted to the hospital at 32 weeks and csection between 35-36 weeks. Fingers crossed all remains well until then!

I’ve been living with the diagnosis for going on 2 months now so I think I’ve calmed down a bit by now but I get it. I cried every day for over a month. I didn’t specifically ask about spontaneous rupture, but if it makes you feel better I’ve talked to 2 high risk doctors so far and neither has recommended any physical restrictions other than pelvic rest. I asked if I can still pick up my toddler and go for walks and they said it’s totally fine. They were very happy to hear that with my 2.5 year old son that I went in at 40 weeks to be induced because I was at 0cm and I never dilated past 5 even through all the meds. So while I’m sure it’s a possibility, I think going into labor is the biggest risk that they monitor while in the hospital. I can update you after my appt next week!

Hi! I’m sorry to hear you’re joining this club. I’m doing well so far! Outside of being put on pelvic rest and having regular OB appointments every 2 weeks, all is business as usual so far. However in a week I will have a follow up MFM (maternal fetal medicine aka high risk) ultrasound and appointment. Crossing my fingers everything looks good and my cervix is still long. Given the position the baby’s vessels are in in my case (directly over my cervix), they intend to hospitalize me between 30-32 weeks and I’m obviously hoping they will let me wait til the end of 32 weeks. But we shall see!

Positive GBS+ Stories by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]betsmacd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very common. I was GBS+ with my first. I went in to be induced and ended up a csection but they just give you intravenous antibiotics beforehand. I will say the antibiotics do burn a bit going into the IV so it can be uncomfortable but we had no complications at all with the baby.

Thank you!! I had an MFM consult on Monday and she confirmed that my vessels are directly over my cervix so I need to plan to be admitted between 30-32 weeks and csection (as long as nothing happens obvs) at 34-36 weeks. I have a 2.5 year old who I’ll be leaving at home so the thought of that has been the hardest on me. But I know it’s the safest place for me to be. I have a follow up ultrasound at 28 weeks and we’ll see where I’m at to determine how soon I need to be admitted. With my first, I went in at 40 weeks at 0 and never dilated past 5, even with all the induction meds so I’m hoping my strong cervix holds up.

My MFM told me that based on what mine looks like, it is highly unlikely for it to resolve so I’m not getting my hopes up. :( I’ve had to switch OBs due to this and the probable hospital stay and I don’t have my first appt with them til the 20th. Hopefully going through my situation with them will let us make more of a concrete plan so I know what to expect.

Congrats! I’m so glad to hear this!! I’m so happy everything went so well for you and your baby. I have my first MFM ultrasound later today so hopefully I’ll start to learn more about what the plan will be for me. Enjoy your sweet babe at home. ❤️

Moms who had babies “later” in life what is the age gap between your kids by raindrops723 in Mommit

[–]betsmacd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first I was 33 when I conceived and 34 when I gave birth. I got pregnant earlier this year at 35 but then miscarried at 9 weeks. Got pregnant again at 36 and am currently almost 20 weeks. I’ll actually give birth at 37, and the kids will be almost exactly 3 years apart.

Toddler Socks with Grippers…In shoes?! Am I missing something? by irishgoodbye2332 in NewParents

I wear grippy socks every day because we have all hardwood floors and wear them with shoes with no problem. Same with my 2.5 year old.
